Berlin Diary 09, Day 1, Session 2, Mens 100m, Round 2: Powell, Gay, Bolt, by Larry Eder

The second round of the hundred meters shows how tough it is to be one of the world's best sprinters. Dwain Chambers of Great Britain won heat one in 10.04, his seasonal best. U.S. sprinter Mike Rodgers won the second heat in 10.01.

In all honesty, even if Usain Bolt says, anyone can be beat, he is in such amazing shape, that it is scary to predict anyone beating him. But this is the WC and it is fun to stir it up.

In the third heat, Asafa Powell got out well and ran 9.95, for the fastest time so far in the champs. Darvis Patton ran 10.05 for second, with Marc Burns of Trinidad in third in 10.12 and 2003 winner, Kim Collins did not qualify, with a 10.20.

In heat four, Tyson Gay ran 9.98, with a pretty slow start. Michael Frater was in second in 10.09 and the Jamaican moved on, as did Norway's Jaysuma Saidy Ndure.

In heat five, Daniel Bailey and Usain Bolt looked at each other, and Bailey ran 10.02 to Bolt's 10.03. Bolt said, " I will talk later."

Tomorrow is the semi final and the final in the 100 meters.

Larry's Picks: Tyson Gay, Usain Bolt, Darvis Patton.
Time: 9.58-9.62. It should be warm, both are fit and the race is going to take a full effort to win.

In all honesty, even if Usain Bolt says, anyone can be beat, he is in such amazing shape, that it is scary to predict anyone beating him. But this is the WC and it is fun to stir it up.

Reasoning: I think that both Gay and Bolt are fresh, and ready to run. I do not believe, that with two such gifted athletes, that one runner could be that supreme, but who knows, as my readers have suggested before, I could be hallucinating.

The final of the 100 meters is going to be a race supreme. I do believe it is very, very close, and time, to me, does not matter. I want nine sprinters, showing all of their stuff, running through the finish.
