Shannon Rowbury, Rbk BIG, photo by PhotoRun.net.
In a recent article in Track & Field News, the bible of our sport, Coach John Cook, a man who takes a very holistic approach to middle distance running, considered Shannon Rowbury to be one of the most meticulous athletes he had ever coached. To be a great middle distance runner, considering the world of talent on this planet, one must do core training, plyometrics, sprint drills, endurance work, speed-endurance, weight training, recovery, race preparation-all is there, all is needed. The devil, as one bright author once said, is in the details. In her recent foray over 3,000 meters in Rbk BIG, Rowbury held her own, and competed with the Ethiopian women until the very end of the battle. Shannon Rowbury is among those rarified American middle distance women (Anna Pierce, Erin Donahue, Christian Wurth-Thomas, Jenny Barringer), who are battling it out on the world stage. Who would have thought that the U.S. would have had three women in the WC 1,500m final? Shannon Rowbury came out with the bronze medal! Watch Shannon this weekend! She has WIC-Doha focus in her eyes!
