Lanni Marchand is the ebullent new Canadian record holder for the marathon. I met up with her on Friday, at the BAA Press conference for elite athletes. Lanni ran a new Canadian record of 2:28:00 at the Scotia Bank Toronto Marathon. Marchand had set a PB by four minutes! The Canadian record that Lanni broke was set by Sylvia Ruegger from 1985 at the Houston Marathon (2:28:36).

I think that Lanni Marchant will finish in the top ten women. Watch for her! (Remember, that Canada has had several winners, Mike Ryan in 1912, Gerard Cote (1940, 1943, 1944 and 1948),  Jerome Drayton in 1977 and Jacqueline Gareau in 1980 (remember Rosie Ruiz?).
