STOCKHOLM (SWE): 2004 Olympic triple jump champion Christian Olsson has said that he believes that it would be better to reduce the amount of competitors in Olympic events rather than cutting some of the disciplines, report expressen.se. He proposed that countries should be only able to have 2 competitors in each event. Although, he is still not happy with making such a compromise, saying, “I think that athletics is the heart of the Olympics, it was where it started. Then it’s wrong to change it to make room for other sports.”

(Editor’s note: The IAAF tells us that it is not on the table with the IOC, and we are grateful. Christian Olsson was asked what he would suggest. The TJ Olympic, European and World Champion, and now sports marketing consultant in Sweden, has a unique view into the challenges that could erupt to athletics. )
