Ekaterina Stefanidi is the gold medalist from Rio 2016 Olympics. Both of her parents were track athletes, and she began vaulting when she was 11. Her father suggested that she might try the event. She liked it, and continues to enjoy the pole vault.
Jenn Suhr is from a family of non-athletes. She came from Basketball, softball and then, tried the pole vault. She is the Olympic silver medalist from 2008, Olympic gold medalist from 2012 and finished in seventh, out of the medals in Rio, due to illness.
We spoke with Ekaterina and Jenn, who spoke about competition, young women in the sport, and just how high women vaulters will go!
The women’s pole vault will be held at 4:20 PM at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
