Mo Farah and his family, photo by PhotoRun.net
All of the experts said that Mo Farah could not win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. I am pretty sure that Mo Farah did not think he could win. But, as he did the interview Live from Saint Mary’s University with his kids nearby. And his boy, Hussein, was sick, as kids get.
What gave Mo the three thousand votes that he had for victory? At the end, British track fans are the best, the very best that I have ever seen. They love Mo Farah and watched the guy come from being close to winning over the last half of his career. That Mo Farah is the finest racer over 5000 meters and 10,000 meters from 2011-2017 should not be in dispute.
That 10,000 meters in London may be the finest 10,000 meters ever, and British fans were transfixed.
Mo Farah earned the respect of British track fans. Fans are not looking for perfection, they are looking for racing. The Somali born athlete became a runenr in London and his development was fascinating to watch. I believe the biggest change was the confidence that Mo Farah got after winning a few races was obvious.
So happy for Mo Farah and his win. Looking forward to seeing him in London this coming April.
