Bolt did 54 m with javelin
KINGSTON (JAM): Usain Bolt revealed for L´Equipe how ended his javelin bet at the Olympics. It happened in Rio the evening after his last gold medal, in the movie Im Bolt pictures from his throw are included, but what was the result? "Yes, it was a gamble! With my team, we made a bet during the season. Some said I was able to throw a javelin more than 50 meters. Others, on the contrary, like Ricky and NJ, did not believe in it. So we organized a bet with Ricky, NJ and my masseuse. My masseuse bet on 60 meters. That's what I bet on. In the end, I threw 54 meters, I think. So I won two bets and I lost one. It's not bad performance, but I had so much pain on my arm after that!"

HAVANA (CUB): Alberto Juantorena has called for a renewed investment in sport in Cuba in the build-up to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, informs Prensa Latina. "I am quite sure that it is necessary to strengthen the base, increase mass sport and provide sport equipment, which is very important," he said. "Cuba, has many and great possibilities to rescue what we used to have in terms of sports. But, sometimes, people minimise our achievements, being among the top 20 countries in the world and winning five gold medals in the last Olympic Games is a tremendous success." PORTLAND (USA): Galen Rupp will contest the 10 000 m at the US Championships next June but his coach Alberto Salazar has said he will no longer race the 5000m as his training will be geared primarily to the marathon, informs Oregon Live. "You can be effective in the 10,000m while doing marathon training. There is precedent for that. But we won't be doing all that training for a kick. And he won't be running the 5000m anymore. That is gone," he said. Rupp will contest the Boston Marathon next April and also looks likely to run an autumn marathon in 2017.

RunBlogRun opines: Galen Rupp has run two marathons. He won the Olympic Trials in his debut. In his second, he took bronze in the Olympics. This was a natural evolution for Galen Rupp, to move up to the marathon. In his conversation with Ken Goe at OregonLive, Alberto Salazar charted the next phase of Galen Rupp's career. We wish him well.

At Nike Border Clash, I spoke with Galen for a few minutes. He was relaxed and basking in the joy of being a new parent for he and his wife's third child. Galen noted how tired one feels at end of marathon, but how he was getting used to the distance. He still seemed to have interest in racing 10,000 meters, but, Galen Rupp is pretty relaxed. He trusts his coach, Alberto Salazar, impicitly. Rupp focuses on running and racing. Salazar focuses on coaching. It is not a protective device, it is how Rupp handles the pressure at his level of competition.

Ethiopia with life-time ban approach
ADDIS ABABA (ETH): Ethiopia will impose lifetime bans athletes with positive doping tests, says Haile Gebrselassie the legendary long distance runner who is the new Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) president. The EAF subsequently announced that it would carry out tests on up to 200 athletes. "Our stand is no excuse towards someone who has cheated. As of today, any athlete who has offended will be hit by a life ban," he said per Reuters. It concerns bans for four or more years.

RunBlogRun opines: Haile Gebrselassie is the new Ethiopian president. Surely he has to show a strong presence and upgrade the testing in Ethiopia. Rumors of little or no testing have to be shown as part of old system as Ethiopia moves into the modern world of out of competition testing.
