The Armory Foundation has announced the cancellation of the 2020 Millrose Games, due to the increases in Covid 19 and after consulting with public health officials. This means that the Millrose Games will happen again in 2022.

There have been rumors on the sponsor side as well, with comments that two major sponsors could not see their way to help in 2021. To put on a meeting like Millrose requires a sizable investment in cash, volunteers and staff.

We love the Millrose Games. The excitement is intense, the events go one after another, with the excitment building until final events, the Millrose Miles!

We will be back to enjoy the excitement in 2022!

I used to visit Chicago for the race weekend. I loved to see runners getting to the start, and how chilly it could be in March. I also enjoyed seeing Carey Pinkowski and Mike Nishi getting around the event and amazingly smooth the event went.

Good luck to all, please stay safe and support this event!

In World Championships, Gesa was 5th in Daegu 2011, and then took bronzes in Beijing 2015 and Doha 2019. Krause has competed in London 2012 (7th ) and Rio 2016 (6th).

Gesa Felicitas Krause is coached by Wolfgang Heinig, husband of Katrin Dorre Heinig.

Hillary Bor is a tremendous athlete, and he will be a welcome addition to the HOKA ONE ONE global athletics program. As a keen observer of HOKA ONE ONE since its beginnings in 2009-2010, it has been amazing to see the brand continue to thrive. HOKA ONE ONE has stayed true to its performance legacy.

Building a group of top athletes in the US and Europe, HOKA ONE ONE is building brand ambassadors, top product, and supporting it with authentic social media that supports the authenticity of the brand.

What has been exciting is to see how HOKA ONE ONE has attacted women to the brand.

Even in the pandemic, brands like HOKA ONE ONE, On running and Brooks have seen exciting growth in the sport in 2020.

The Russian doping scandal continues.

s-l640 soviet spkes.jpg

The IOC wants it over and the World Athletics is not sure what to do. How does one keep the second most popular country in global sport out of the Olympics? WA has taken a stand, and I'm confused at to where it is going.

The saga continues....

The bottom line is this...since 1952, sports has been weaponized. The Soviet Union and Bloc countries wanted to win, and the US and its allies want to win, each believing that a gold medal showed the superiority of their political system. Doping became involved in the late 1940s, and it was underestimated by global federations.

World Athletics has put a line in the sand, and they want Russia to get their act together. This means acknowledging the doping issues and coming up with a remedy.

Sunday is long run day. Keep it at conversation pace, and enjoy the run!

Sam Parsons competes on Tinman Elite, where his is also their creative director. Sam graduated from North Carolina State in business administration. At 10k, Sam has run 28:43, and at 5000m, Sam has gone 13:22. He's pretty excited about his 1,500m speed, which is coming along well, with PBs at 3:37.4 (2019) and 3:55 in the mile (2019). Sam gives credit to the coaching team at Tinman Elite.

We had a liively talk about the sport, Sam's time at adidas and his views on the global sport. Sam Parsons wants to give back to the sport that has given him so much. I like that about Sam.

I met Sam Parsons in Dusseldorf, in 2019, and saw that he competed for Germany, and ran well at 3,000 meters.

The interview was a lot of fun. Sam Parsons is passionate about athletics and brand marketing. He gets it. You will enjoy his interview.

The Marathon Project was an amazing idea a couple months ago, and now, a couple days prior to the event, it is even better. I was not surprised when I saw that Josh Cox Announced Brooks Running as Official Footwear & Apparel Partner. Brooks gets it. The reason why they continue to innovate, continue to stay at the top of the performance shoe food chain is because Brooks has their fingers on the pulse.

That Brooks signed on to sponsor the Marathon Project makes sense. It is the hottest elite event going for marathoners in Dec 2020.

On December 5, 2020, the World Athletics named Mondo Duplantis and Yulimar Rojas as the World Athletics Athletes of the Year. I apologize being twelve days behind, but I have been dealing with some challenging personal issues, and spending a couple weeks in San Jose, CA again.

And, I wanted to give it the importance that it deserves.

Mondo Duplantis and Yulimar Rojas are perfect picks in 2020. Both athletes had most excellent seasons, even in a pandemic year.

Mondo Duplantis competed 16 times in 2020 and won all sixteen. On 15 Feb 2020, Mondo set his second world record in a week, with his 6.18m, and outdoors, on 17 Sept 2020, Mondo cleared 6.15m, his outdoor best.

Yulimar Rojas has had two jumps over 15 meters, 15.03m (7 Feb 2020) and 15.43m ( 21 Feb 2020).

Two amazing, exciting, emotional athletes get the AOYs in 2020.

The Track meet, recently held in Southern Californa, on 4-5 December again showed the promise in pop up events. What I liked is that the meets will expand, to include more than middle distance events, to include various field events.

We will keep you updated, but the Professional Track Series has our complete support. Watch here to see more updates!

This needs a close read. And I am beffudled on this one.

All brands use test and development shoes to get the 'Kinks' out of a shoe. Most test/development shoes are run in, say 100-300 miles and a race shoe, in a couple quick workouts, and now the chance to use them in a race. But product developers take the shoes back from elite athletes, and virtually dissec the shoe to see how they can make it better. It sounds like some brands are using experimental shoes and designating them development shoes so that they can bypass the new rules.

%22 Steve Ovett.jpgNike spike, 1980, used by Steve Ovett, who gave NIke it's premiere Olympic medal, in the 800m in Moscow, photo by SneakerQueen

Many elite athletes get shoes just made for them. But, the shoe is modeled on an already existing shoe, and the shoe is then tuned to assist the athlete.

This is a mine field. Nike, adidas, and maybe ASICS can get shoes developed with the speed that cuts development time down by six months.

World Athletics is attempting a level playing field. After Valencia, it was clear that adidas AND Nike now have shoes that are going to give us world records much more frequently. I think that the shoe wars will get out of control....

I like Race running. It is something old, and something new. At the end of the day, race running opens athletics to a whole new enthusiastic group of athletes.

The Nike Pre Classic will be back in Eugene, Oregon!

I did not see this release until today, but I knew it had to be up!

I love the Nike Prefontaine Classic. In the 1980s and 1990s, the Nike Prefontaine Classic saved elite athletics in the U.S. It was how I experienced elite athletics. I love sitting in the stands and enjoying the meet, the athletes, and the competitions.

I look forward to the 2021 event. I hope to be there.

This is the updated list on the 2021 Wanda Diamond League. Glad to see that 32 events are back on the schedule. That is a good thing (as Martha Stewart would say).

Tuesday is tempo. Keep it as scheduled. Stay safe.

The new half marathon records in Valencia opened up many eyes. It also let the world know that adidas and Nike now have screaming quick shoes. Justin Lagat put it in perspective. Check out his column and let me know your deep thoughts.

Long runs make Sundays go well . Keep the run at conversational pace, and put a couple hills into the run. Stay safe.

Sunday, Dec 13, 2020 : Long run, 75-90 minutes

This is a speed play workout, or Fartlek. It is 10 minutes tough running, at either 5k or 10k pace. Some older athletes might want to do both sessions, but that is up to coach and you.

Stay safe.

Molly Huddle is a ferocious competitor. Her American record in Monaco in 2014, was a battle with Shannon Rowbury until the last meters. In 2015, Molly won the 5000m while being behind with 50m to go!

Always a good conversation, Molly Huddle is an amazing example of how an athlete should build up over their career. Thanks Molly!

Look, I just love China. I studied Chinese Marxism in college and have been fascinated by China and its history. My visits to China and 2008 and 2015 were life changing. Each time I met new friends and had new experiences. One learns quickly that China is a country with 5000 years of history, and the majority of Chinese know the strengths and weaknesses of their political system and country.

Putting on a major championships is no mean feat. Putting on a major championships in a pandemic is insane. World Athletics was in a tough place. They have been postponing championships due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
