Tom Bosworth is the top British race walker, and Stuart Weir wrote this piece on the sixth placer from Doha!

Long runs allow us to open our minds, breathe deeply and celebrate movement.

For years, in college and past, I enjoyed the company of great friends. My college coach, at Santa Clara University, Dan Durante, would run the first ten with us, before the grind.

The grind was the last 8 miles of the 20 miles Sunday run. When Paul Gyorey or Gerhard Behrens and I ran this, the banter I would keep for the first 12 miles, would stop. All one would hear is the sounds of breathing as we climbed one hill after another.

As we finished we would take a few minutes to jog, then grab some water and read the Sunday paper under the redwoods of the Santa Cruz mountains.

The long runs gave me confidence that affected my life.

Well, I've tried to explain, for some time now, that we will not feel normal until 2022, and it should take until 2023-2024 until we find the new normal.

The folks at Tracktown are the ones I feel sorry for. Lane County changes its dystopian view of the the track capital of Lane County on a weekly time frame.

How many will be allowed in Hayward Field? Our sources suggested that last week it changed from 50% of seats back to 15 % of seats, due to upsurge in Covid cases in Lane county.

Good news is that Oregon is upping vaccinations, with students at Oregon just getting access.

Stay tuned. Know that Michael Reilly is a great guy who loves track, as does Tracktown. The USOPC makes the decisions, tells USATF, who then alerts Tracktown..and somewhere in there is Lane County, who seem a bit overwhelmed.

Just stay safe, and know that it will get better.

Ezm248VXIAcCAiE.jpg

After the AD, and University President receiving targeted vitriol via social media, walks and writing campaigns, Clemson University has agreed to keep Men's Track & Field and Cross Country alive.

We are grateful for that decision.

The idea of fartlek is fascinating. The simple to complex nature of fartlek allows both coach and athlete to fine-tune the workout.

Thursday: warm-up (1 mile easy, stretch), 50 minutes Holmer Fartlek, 25 minutes out, 25 minutes back (harder), 4 x 150m stride-outs, cooldown

Wednesday is an easy day. Keep the 30 minute run light, and stretch out over the stride outs. Stretch slowly before and after, and if you find something sore, let your coach and or trainer know.

Caster Semenya, London 2017, photo by Mike Deering / The Shoe Addicts

Well, good for Caster Semenya. Give her 3-5 more 5000m, and she has a good shot at 15:10.00, depending on fitness.

Milers have to build fitness to handle 12.5 laps. If Caster gets to 15:10.00, it will be quite exciting.

We shall watch this spring to see how she competes.

BOSTON--The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced that both the 2021 B.A.A. 10K, presented by Brigham and Women's Hospital, and the 2021 B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, will be held as virtual events this year. Virtual race dates will be June 25-27 for the B.A.A. 10K, and September 17-19 for the B.A.A. Half Marathon.

Truth is this: Beth Potter ran a fine 5k in 14:41. Did her new ASICS shoes help? Of course! But why don't many media friends not note that a year of solid training, no racing, also adds to a complicated situation. Bottom line is that WA must come up with rules on racing shoes and spikes or world records will mean nothing.

But pummeling Beth Potter on social media was not an advised approach.

Stuart Weir did this piece on the 2021 GB marathon team.

The new world record by Ruth Cheonegetich is outstanding. The amateur coverage of the event, done by a crew that seems not to understand what sport was being covered shows once again that women's athletics is not getting the coverage it deserves.

The time for a hard run, photo by Justin Lagat/ Kenyan athlete

Justin Lagat writes about how challenging it is to be an emerging athlete without any way to make money or be seen by agents.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo is showing just how fit she is, as 22.03 is screaming! But please do not discount Fred Kerley's exciting 10.06 in heats and 10.03 PB in final. I can not wait to see Fred Kerley and Wayde Van Niekerk, who recently ran 20.10, over 400 meters.

And, oh yes, Erriyon Knighton is absolutely the real thing! PB 20.31 in heat 3? Erriyon, that is smoking!

The guy on the cover of TFN is David Moorcroft. David was one of UK's best in the 1970s-1980s. His PBs goes from 1:46 at 800m to 13:00.41 at 5000m. His training was long-term, focused, and built him into a global competitor.

KJ.jpgKatarina Johnson-Thompson, phoo by www.birmingham2022.com

Katerina Johnson-Thompson is one of the finest athletes in Great Britain. KJT, as she is known in the athletics press, and among her millions of fans.

Her event is multi-events, the heptathlon outdoors and the pentathlon indoors. It is, to paraphrase the former coach of Ashton Eaton and Brianne Theisen Eaton, "seven to ten chances to make mistakes in one event".

In 2019, Katerina won the gold at the World Outdoor Athletics championships. In 2014 and 2018, KJT took gold in two consecutive World indoor championships. In 2015 and 2019, Ms. Johnson-Thompson took gold in consecutive European Indoor Championships.

In Olympics, KJT was 14th in London 2012, sixth in Rio 2016.

What are her plans for the future? Well, you just have to read the article below:

Long runs are times to celebrate movement. Long runs are a time to consider your week. Long runs are time to consider how lucky you are to be alive. Long runs are weekly chances to be present. Long runs are more than endurance development.

Sunday: Long run, 50-55 minutes, at a conversational pace.

The Miramar Invitational will be held on 10 April. By announcing that they have the number one male and female hurdlers in 2021, they insure that the races will be amazing!
