This is the EME News review of the first day of 2025 European Athletics Team Championships, First Division, held on June 27, 2025.

6 meet records, Netherlands leads


MADRID (ESP, Jun 27): Fast times in the sprints were the highlights of the second day of the European Team Championships First Division in 35+ degrees. In total 6 meet records have been registered. Both Championship Records in the 400m were broken, by Sam Reardon of Great Britain (44.60, followed by Oleksandr Pohorilko 44.81 NR and Patrik Enyingi 44.84 NR eq) and Femke Bol (49.48 also EL). Also improved was the record of the men’s 3000m steeplechase, by German Karl Bebendorf (8:20.43) and men’s 800m by home athlete Mohamed Attaoui (1:44.01 over Francesco Pernici 1:44.39 PB). In the 100m, Boglarka Takacs broke both the Hungarian Record and Championship Record with 11.06 (0.0) ahead of Ewa Swoboda in 11.13 in her season opener. In the B heat, a PB for Minke Bischopps of the Netherlands of 11.17 (-0.2) as overall 3rd. The men’s race was won by favourite Eugene Amo Dadzie in 10.07 (0.0) from Dutch Elvis Africa (10.10 PB, 10.096) and winner of B heat Oliwer Wdowik from Poland also 10.10 (10.100).

Warm conditions impacted times in the women’s 5000m, with a slow early pace. It was won by Italian Nadia Battocletti in 15:56.01. In the field, there were expected wins for Jessica Schilder in the shot put (20.14m CR, 2nd Olympic winner Yemisi Ogunleye 19.58) and Mykhaylo Kokhan in the hammer (81.66m PB, second Merlin Hummel 81.27 PB and 3rd Bence Halasz 80.63). Frenchman Jonathan Seremes (17.00m, – 0.1) won the triple jump and Jorinde Van Klinken the discus (64.61m). At the end of Day 2, the Netherlands tops the placing table (165.5) ahead of Spain (134) and Italy (133) with Poland (131.5). Next following big powers France 126, GBR 123 and Germany 120. In 8th Sweden 115.5 followed by Hungary 114.5 and Czechia 108.5. Also well ahead of relegation space, 11th Ukraine 100.5, 12th Portugal 99.5 and 13th Switzerland 92. In relegation positions are Greece 77.5, Finland 76 and Lithuania 46.
