ROAD RESULTS
CHON BURI (THA, Dec 21): Kenyan double for Samwel Mailu (62:59) and Dolphine Omare (70:14) in the Bangsaen21 Half Marathon (WA Platinum Label). Ethiopians completed podiums with Teresa Nyakola (63:22) and Regasa Seyoum Beharu (63:36), and Beriha Gebreyohanes (71:12) and Mehret Gemeda (72:30) respectively.
TAIPEI CITY (TPE, Dec 21): Gadise Mulu won the Taipei Marathon (WA Gold Label) in a course record of 2:24:17 ahead of her 41-year-old Ethiopian teammate Tirfi Tsegaye in 2:24:49. 2018 European champion Volha Mazuronak from Belarus was third in 2:29:39. Bethwel Kibet won the men’s race in 2:09:31, leading a Kenyan 1-2-3 from Jonathan Samanayo (2:09:51 on debut) and Wilfred Kirwa (2:10:30). European marathon silver medallist Maru Teferi was sixth in 2:11:48.
GUANGZHOU (CHN, Dec 21): Kenya’s Joyce Tele won the Guangzhou Marathon (WA Gold Label) in 2:22:40 by a clear distance from Ethiopians Betelihem Afenigus (2:27:52) and Chaltu Chimdesa (2:31:37). Ethiopia’s Afewerk Mesfin won the men’s race in 2:12:23 ahead of Kenya’s Felix Kirwa (2:12:25) and China’s Ciren Zhaxi (2:14:06). Kenenisa Bekele reportedly dropped out after two kilometres.
CHANDLER (USA, Dec 21): 45-year-old Priscah Cherono, who won 5000m bronze for Kenya at the 2007 World Championships, won The Marathon Project race in Chandler in a 2:25:17 PB ahead of Molly Grabill (2:28:56), Jane Bareikis (2:30:16) and Sweden’s Hanna Lindholm (2:31:19). JP Flavin won the men’s race in 2:09:18 PB from Turner Wiley (2:09:27 PB) and South Africa’s Nadeel Wildschutt (2:09:40 on debut). Paul Chelimo was seventh in a 2:10:55 PB.

PISA (ITA, Dec 21): Russia’s Dmitriy Nedelin, who won his national marathon title earlier this year in a 2:09:38 PB, won the Pisa Marathon in 2:12:28 by almost seven minute. Poland’s Dominika Stelmach (43 years) won the women’s race in 2:38:25. In other races, Giovanna Epis won the adjoining half marathon in 73:29.
CITTADELLA (ITA, Dec 21): Federica Del Buono won the Cittadella Half Marathon in a big lifetime best of 70:07. Eritrea’s Mogos Shumay won the men’s race in 63:48 from Maxim Răileanu of Moldova (64:43).
WOLUWÉ (BEL, Dec 20): Burundi’s Patrick Nimubona won the Brussels Corrida 5K on an uncertified course in 13:48. Febe Triest topped the women’s race (16:14).
OKAYAMA (JPN, Dec 21): Kenya’s Margaret Akidor, who ran the 5000m at the Tokyo World Championships, retined her SANYO Ladies Road Race half marathon title from last year in 67:52 ahead of fellow Kenyans Agnes Mutuku (68:01) and Tabithanjeri Kamau (69:29). Lucy Nduta won the adjoining 10km in 31:49 PB.
KYOTO (JPN, Dec 21): Girls from Nagano Higashi High School (1:06:30 in half marathon) and Gakuho Ishikawa High School (2:00:36) boys topped the National High School Ekiden. Kenya’s U20 runners Janet Jepkoech Chepkemoi (8:32) and Felix Muthiani (7:40) clocked Championships records over the 3K stage.
GETAFE (ESP, Dec 21): This years Spanish champion and Tokyo participant Alvaro Lopez won the 27th edition of walking Trofeo de Marcha Cerro Buenavista in 40:38 over 10 km. Lidia Sanchez-Puebla was the top female in 46:19.
