Czech Indoor Meeting: Five Take Aways from the Ostrava Indoor Meeting!

Czech Indoor Meeting is a World Indoor Gold stop, in fact, the third on the circuit. It was held in Ostrava, Czechia on 3 February 2026. The fans, both at the Gala and watching from around the world, were treated to Ten Meet records, Five World Leads and an U18 WR.

Here are the five takeaways that I see from the Czech Indoor Gala:

Attila Molnar, HUN, broke the thirty-eigth year old European record, set the Thomas Schonlebe, DDR, who set the Indoor world record of 45.60 in 1985, at the inaugural Paris World Indoor Champs. Attila Molnar set the new record of 45.01. The performance was focused, well-executed and dominating, by the young Hungarian.

In a long jump duel with three prodigies, the Italian World Champion wins over the Greek Olympic, European and World Champion and the current European Indoor Champion. Mattia Furlani, ITA scored 8.30m for the LJ win, with Miltiadis Tentoglou, GRE, pushing for an 8.23m second place with Bozhidar Saraboyikov, in 8.21 meters. Now, that is a deep long jump!

Elliott Crestan broke his own meet record, with his very fine 1:43.83, the number 4 time for Men’s 800m short track. Elliott Crestan has 4 medals indoors in the 800 meters: silver and bronze in both the World and European Indoors. In the Czech Gala, Elliott hit the 400m in 51.04 and that party was over!

Isaac Nader has won the 1500 meters and the mile in previous editions at the Indoor Ostrava meeting. This time, his first race in Ostrava in four years, Isaac, now the World Outdoor 2025 1,500 meter gold medalist, took the 3000 meters in 7:38.05, broke the twenty-six year old Portugese short track record for the Men’s 3000m. Ethiopia Tshepo Tshite, in his first venture at the 3000 meters, took second and set an Ethiopian NR of 7:38.15.

Lieke Klaver’s win in the 400m came in a 51.00 world leader. Lourdes Gloria Manuel, returning from an injury, scored a PB of 51.12, her first race since May 2025. Slovakia’s bronze medalist at the 400m hurdles (who went on a rampage over Slovakia’s 400m and 400m hurdle records), Emma Zapletová, set a NR of 51.25 for third place.

Larry Eder has had a 52-year involvement in the sport of athletics. Larry has experienced the sport as an athlete, coach, magazine publisher, and now, journalist and blogger. His first article, on Don Bowden, America's first sub-4 minute miler, was published in RW in 1983. Larry has published several magazines on athletics, from American Athletics to the U.S. version of Spikes magazine. He currently manages the content and marketing development of the RunningNetwork, The Shoe Addicts, and RunBlogRun. Of RunBlogRun, his daily pilgrimage with the sport, Larry says: "I have to admit, I love traveling to far away meets, writing about the sport I love, and the athletes I respect, for my readers at runblogrun.com, the most of anything I have ever done, except, maybe running itself." Also does some updates for BBC Sports at key events, which he truly enjoys.
