This was one of the finest combined indoor events this writer has witnessed. The men’s WR in the heptathlon by Simon Ehammer, Switzerland, happened on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21, 2026. On March 22, 2026, Sofia Dokter, NED, held off Anna Hall, US, and Kate O’Connor, IRL, in an extremely close pentathlon in Torun, Poland.

Sofia Dokter, NED, won the pentathlon at the World Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, with 4,888 points, a new Dutch National record!

The WIC pentathlon was won by 28 points, with Sofia Dokter, NED, and Anna Hall, US, finishing first and second, respectively, in an epic competition!

Sofia Dokter, who was sixth in the Paris Olympics 2024 in the heptathlon with a score of 6,452 points (13.57 for the 100m hurdles, 1.86m for the high jump, 13.97m for the shot put, and 23.73 for the 200 meters. On Day 2 (event was August 8-9, 2024), 6.26m in long jump, 42.46 meters in Javelin Throw, 2:13.52 for 6,452 points!

Sofia’s win in Torun was the first World Indoor combined events title by a Dutch multieventer at the World Indoor Championships since Sopot 2014, and the first by Nadine Broersen!

Sofia Dokter is one of the finest Dutch multi-event athletes. Sofia came onto the scene in 2021, taking the silver in the European U20 heptathlon in Tallinn, Estonia. In 2023, Sofia took the silver at the European U23 heptathlon in Espoo, Finland.

In 2024, Sofia Dokter won bronze at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, UK.

The Dutch athlete finished sixth in the heptathlon at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In 2025, Sofia Dokter took the silver at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, adding to her medal haul.

Sofia Dokter took sixth in the Tokyo World Champs in September 2025.

At the World Indoor Championships, in Torun, Poland, Sofia Dokter, NED, battled Anna Hall, US, and Kate O’Connor, IRL, for the medals. Sofia put pressure on Anna Hall from event 1, with a huge PB (8.19 seconds) for the 60m hurdles (PB by .08), with 1.87 meters high jump, 13.92 meters shot put, a 6.52m long jump, and finally, stayed within six seconds of Anna Hall in the final event, the 800 meters in 2:12.47. The final score of 4, 888 points, a Dutch NR, gave Sofia the gold medal! And kept the silver medalist, Anna Hall, back 28 points.

Sofia was, well, surprised! Here is what Sofia Dokter said to the media after the event!

“I still cannot believe I am the world champion – this is definitely the greatest day of my athletics career so far. A medal was my goal here before the competition, and I thought I could achieve it, but gold did not seem realistic. Anna and Kate are both super strong. The moment when I believed I could win was after the long jump. After the final attempt, I told myself it was possible, but I knew Anna was super fast in the 800m, and I could not take it for granted. I had to give it all I had, and I pushed all the way. It has been a good day for our team, with Nadine (Visser) also getting a medal. We are probably going to celebrate it together, but also with my family, who are here with me.”

Sofia Dokter, NED, Anna Hall, US, and Kate O’Connor, IRL,  took the medals in Torun, Poland, in an exciting pentathlon.
