Day 4 Review:

Faith Continues to Shine in the 1,500m!

September 16, 2025

Tokyo, Japan

My top highlights for Day 4, September 16, 2025:

  1. Faith Kipyegon, Kenya, won her fourth straight 1,500-meter title in 3:52.15. Dorcus Ewoi, also from Kenya, took second in 3:54.92, and Jessica Hull, Australia, took the bronze in 3:55.16.
  2. Ethan Katzberg, CAN, defended his title with a throw of 84.70 meters-it was humongous, setting a new Championship record.
  3. Hamish Kerr, New Zealand, completed the Global Gold set! Hamish cleared 2.36 meters, which equaled the Oceanian record (which was his). The Kiwi high jumper edged Woo Sanghyeok/South Korea with his 2.34-meter clearance.

  4. Cordell Tinch of the USA won his first global title in 12.99. Tinch kept the US title defense in the 110m hurdles, even without Grant Holloway in the final, the three-time consecutive winner.
  5. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, USA, ran 48.29, breaking Sanya Richards-Ross’s AR from 2006 in the women’s 400-meter semi-final.
  6. Collen Kebinatshipi, Botswana, ran 43.61 WL and cruised into the final!

For the fourth night in a row, the Tokyo crowd was spectacular. This was the first time the Japanese crowd could enjoy a global event at the revitalized Tokyo Olympic Stadium. In Tokyo 2021, due to COVID-19, no fans were allowed in the stadium.

This is our review of the first Day of the 2025 World Athletics Outdoor Championships, held September 13-21, 2025. This coverage was sponsored by NIKE Running!
