Zaripova positive also in London
LAUSANNE (SUI): IOC announced that further 12 athletes have been disqualified from the Olympic Games London 2012 after re-testing their samples. Also three athletics names appeared in the list. The most known is women steeple winner Yulia Zaripova from Russia as her re-analysis resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol). The IAAF is invited to consider whether to proceed or not with result management in respect of consequences beyond the Olympic Games, which could go beyond the scope of the already issued decision, says IOC in this case. That is because she was already banned by IAAF for that period. Her initial ban ended on January 24, 2016. With second ban the situation can be different, but she also said before she might change to triathlon. Other two are names did not advance from qualifications, long jumper Margaryta Tverdokhlib and hammer thrower Oleksandr Drygol, both representing Ukraine. Both were positive for turinabol, Tverdokhlib also for stanozolol. It should be noted that Drygol now competes for Israel.

RunBlogRun: I find it particularly fascinating that IOC announces these drug retest positives, yet, manhandles WADA. If one reads the IOC’s actions, they suggest that the IOC has little interest in Russia cleaning up its act. WADA is now punching bag of every NGB that can defer the focus of media eyes on the stench or lack of stench (no drug testing) in their country or sport.
