The final press conference of the Boston Marathon for 2017 just provided solid evidence that this year’s iconic marathon was one of the best races ever. In terms of hot weather, it was too warm, but it could have been much worse. There were about 2500 people who sought medical attention, but fewer than in past years who spent a night in the hospital (12-15). In terms of the citizen runners, nearly 30,000 finished the race, including David McGillavrey, the Race Director, who starts after most have finished, with a few friends, and runs the marathon in its entirety.
The races upfront, from push rim wheelchairs to elite men and elite women, were fantastic races. That there were two American women in the top ten and six American men in the top ten were no surprise to those following the increasingly good performances of the American athletes.
