Tori Bowie took three medals in 2016, after one medal in Beijing. At the Pre Classic, Tori Bowie took the lead early and just moved away from the entire field. Her run was one of the real highlights of the Pre Classic. Here is why sprint fans should be excited.

It was at the 2015 Beijing World Champs, where Tori Bowie took the bronze medal in the 100 meters. Better known as a long jumper, Tori’s coach, Lance Brauman (Pure Athletics), moved Tori to the 100 meters and 200 meters. Keen observers of the sport have noted that this young woman had talent. Her biggest cheerleader has been her coach.

After her experience in Beijing, Tori Bowie told this writer that she could do much better. It was nice to hear. Her runs at Rio, with the silver in the 100 meters, bronze in the 200 meters and gold in the 4×100 meters put a large smile this fine athlete’s face. But, again, Tori knew she could run faster. And she told RunBlogRun, she sure liked winning medals.

The Pre Classic 200 meters featured the finest field of the year, and perhaps, the finest field that will be assembled outside of London 2017. Elaine Thompson had been thought as unbeatable this season, and she has been. But, in the Pre Classic 200 meters, Elaine Thompson was given a wake up call, as Shaunae Miller-Uibo finished second in 21.91 and Tori Bowie blazed brightest of all with her 21.77 MR and PB for Tori.

In the race, Tori Bowie ran as if she was in a time trial. She ran focused, relaxed and came off the turn well, but her final fifty meters was amazing. Strong stride, and pumping her arms, Tori Bowie just flew down the final straight and no one, no one was making up real estate on her.

We look forward to seeing Tori Bowie at the US Champs in late June and the World Champs in early August.

Tori Bowie is running with focus and confidence. This will make for an exciting 100 meters and 200 meters in London.

Somewhere, there is a smiling coach, figuring out workouts for the next eight weeks.

For now, we look forward to seeing Tori Bowie next weekend, June 4, at the adidas Boston Boost Street Games!
