The British Championships and World Championship Trials was held on July 1 and July 2. The meet was held in Birmingham, England. This is EME news’ review of the second day of the championships.

NMB 20.18 and MHS 44.99
BIRMINGHAM (GBR, Jul 2): Second day of the British Championships concluded with a brilliant men’s 200m final with Nathaneel Mitchell-Blake winning in a championship record of 20.18 (0.8) from Danny Talbot (20.20), Leon Reid (20.38) and Zharnel Hughes (20.42). Former European champion Adam Gemili pulled up in the home straight and finished sixth in 20.97.

European U20 silver medallist Shannon Hylton won the women’s 200m in a 22.94 PB (0.0) from Bianca Williams (23.05) and Desiree Henry (23.14). Matthew Hudson-Smith produced another highlight with victory in the 400m in a season’s best of 44.99 from Rabah Yousif (45.82) while Zoey Clark won the women’s 400m in 52.30 from long-time internationals Emily Diamond (52.34) and Anyika Onuora (52.82). Tom Bosworth won the 5000m walk in a British record and world-lead of 18:43.28 while Bethan Davies set another British record of 21:21.52 to win the women’s 5000m walk.

Also on the track, world finalist Shelayna Oskan-Clarke won the women’s 800m in 2:01.54 from Adelle Tracey (2:01.80) with Lynsey Sharp only third in 2:01.81 while Elliot Giles won a tactical men’s 800m in 1:49.52. In the 1500m, Chris O’Hare (3:47.28) and Josh Kerr (3:47.71) secured the two automatic qualifying places ahead of Jake Wightman (3:47.74) while Laura Weightman won the women’s 1500m in 4:06.49 from Jessica Judd 4:07.09.

Elsewhere, David King won the 110m hurdles title in a marginally wind-aided 13.55 (2.1) with David Omoregie only fifth in 13.88 after hitting a hurdle while Steph Twell won the 5000m title in 15:35.50 from Eilish McColgan (15:38.57). On the in-field, Robbie Grabarz cleared 2.26m in the high jump before attempting 2.33m, Nick Miller won the hammer with 74.98m, Lorraine Ugen won the long jump with 6.59m and Luke Cutts cleared 5.45m to win the pole vault.
