My job is to provide you a short, focused preview of the London World Champs, day for day, for ten days. You know that is not going to happen.
But surprisingly, thanks to Adam’s management skills, and the sudden jolt of energy from six to eight espresso shots, I am, well, like Lou Reed on Ritalin. Awake. Focused. Conversational, and for once in my fifty-eight years, conscise.

The first day of the London World Champs is busy. From first round 100 meters, where 205 countries can put one athlete into the rounds, to the frighteningly competitive women’s 1,500 meters, to the mens’ discus with Daniel Stahl, Swedish for Superman, it will be an exciting session. Add Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake in the 100 meters, and then, for the British crowd, the men’s 10,000 meters, where Mo Farah is running his last World Champs 10,000 meters, you have a great night to get track fans into the groove!
