Jordan Hasay has a race to run tomorrow, on the streets of Chicago (October 8, 2017)

Jordan Hasay was a fine runner in high school, dominating California HIgh School cross country and track and field. From the first day I met her, Jordan was a lot of fun to interview. In college, Jordan battled some fine athletes and that heart of hers, that inner drive did not falter, even though she had wins and some tough losses.

I remember the USA 10,000m title in 2014 in Sacramento with Kim Conley and Jordan. It came down to the final fifty meters and Jordan finished second. She was frustrated, but she knew it was part of the journey as her coaches, Alberto Salazar and Pete Julian, told her. Truth was, I totally respected Jordan for that race, no quarter given, none asked. Hasay and Conley showed us a tremendous battle over 25 laps.

In Houston in January 2017, Jordan Hasay cranked a fast half marathon, 1:08:45. Her confidence was back, her smile was back and I began to wonder, what can she do in Boston? Problem is, Boston must be respected, as it has been the graveyard of many marathoners’ dreams.

Jordan Hasay ran 2:23:00 there in Boston, taking third. Jordan Hasay showed us that the dimuntive marathoner with the big heart and lungs and huge drive.

Now, Jordan is running Chicago, and as Coach Salazar said the other day, Jordan is really fit! I told Jordan she will run a fine race, and perhaps, even score another PB.

One thing for certian, the marathon may be the perfect distance for Jordan Hasay. We will just have to wait and see until tomorrow, October 8, 2017.
