RENO (USA, Jan 12): Armand Duplantis of Sweden improved his own world indoor junior record by 1 cm with 5.83m to take victory at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno. His world lead, set at the second attempt, was eight centimetres below his world junior outdoor mark. The 18-year-old had three failures at 5.92m what would be an overall World Junior Record (590). He had incredible series with clearing all heights in first until 568 (538, 548, 558) and then after one miss at 578 and another one at 583 he managed the winning height. American Devin King was second with 5.78m and countryman Scott Houston third with 5.68m, personal bests for both. Also life-time bests for fourth Tray Oates and fifth Nathan Richartz, both 558. Olympic and World silver medalist Sandi Morris also set a world lead, clearing 4.90m at her third attempt before retiring (her fourth best overall result of the career). She cleared 451, 461 in first, then 471 in second and 480 in third attempt. USA’s Katie Nageotte was second with 4.61m and Annie Rhodes made it a US 1-2-3 with 4.51 indoor PB. Also fourth Morgann Leleux cleared 451.
