An amazingly well orchestrated meet, and on FB and twitter, the culture of the indoor meet, the intimacy, the emotion, the speed, all there as the IAAF does the noble experiment, taking the meet to the proposed consumer, is working.

Big stories, from Su Bingtian, with two NR in two meets, Christina Manning winning the 60m hurdles in a WL and Tomas Stanek reminding the world of great shot putters from mittel Europa.

Big story is also that Sam Kendricks has lost two meets in a row. Perhaps a lack of focus, and rightly so, early in season as Mr. Kendricks was recently married. Sam always comes around and the pole vault guys are putting on quite the show. Raphael Holzdeppe after setting an indoor PB of 5.88m on February 3, could only manage 5.60m.

Su, Manning, Stanek topped the action
DUSSELDORF (GER, Feb 6): Three superb results highlighted the 13th PSD Bank Meeting, 2nd stop of IAAF World Indoor Tour 2018. Su 6.43 in men´s 60 m, 7.77 hurdles by Manning and Stanek´s 22.17 in shot put. Third World lead of the day was registered in women long jump, in total 4 meeting records before 2000 spectators.

Men
60m – After winning in Karlsruhe in 6.47, China’s Su Bingtian blasted to another Asian record of 6.43. Only Coleman (6.37), Greene (6.39), Cason (6.41) and Chambers (6.42) have run faster in history. Yunier Perez (for him also national record) and Mike Rodgers were both timed at 6.52 in second and third with following detail: 6.514 to 6.518.
800m – Adam Kszczot won the first race in 1:46.47 and was marginally the fastest (his 7th win here) across the two races with Kenya’s Nicholas Kipkoech winning the second race in 1:46.52 from teammate Wycliffe Kinyamal (1:46.54).
1500m – Disaster on the last lap for world champion Elijah Manangoi who tripped and took down Abdelaati Iguider with him. Vincent Kibet came through for the win in 3:36.86 with Manangoi jogging across the line in ninth in 3:49.73. Iguider was a DNF.
3000m – After finishing second in Karlsruhe, Yomif Kejelcha won tonight in 7:40.55 from Kenya’s Bethwel Birgen (7:40.90).
60m hurdles – Hungary’s Balazs Baji outleaned German Erik Balnuweit, 7.64 to 7.66.
Pole vault – Piotr Lisek had the beating of Sam Kendricks again, 5.86m to 5.78m. Karlsruhe winner Raphael Holzdeppe could only clear 5.60m for tenth.
Shot put – Incredible trio of throws from Czech Republic’s Tomas Stanek: 21.57m, 21.98m and 22.17m. Only Ulf Timmermann (22.55m) and Werner Gunthor (22.26m) have gone further indoors among Europeans. Stipe Zunic was second with a Croatian indoor record of 21.13m.
Women
60m – European indoor champion Asha Philip clocked 7.17 ahead of Poland’s Ewa Swoboda (7.20). World indoor champion Barbara Pierre was only seventh in 7.34.
60m hurdles – Christina Manning turned the tables on Sharika Nelvis and took her world-lead in the process, 7.77 to 7.80. Pamela Dutkiewicz was the best of the Germans in third in 7.83, 0.02 ahead of Cindy Roleder.
1500m – Meeting record and Kenyan record of 4:04.21 for Beatrice Chepkoech ahead of the fast finishing Angelika Cichocka in 4:06.35.
Long jump – Ivana Spanovic produced the two longest jumps in the world in 2018: 6.77m and 6.74m. Sosthene Moguenara was second with 6.68m while Tianna Bartoletta improved to 6.48m in fourth.
