COLLEGE STATION (USA, Mar 9): NCAA Division I Championships first day had Will Williams winning the long jump 819 PB over Grant Holloway 813 (was also fastest in 60mhurdles prelims 7.58) and Charles Brown 812. New Saudi Arabian record by Hussain Al-Hizam in pole vault 570 (over Chris Nilsen and Deakin Volz both 560) and Egyptian shot put win for Mostafa Hassan who with 20.86 defended his title (beating Dutch Denzel Comenentia 20.29 and Nigerian Josh Awotunde 20.15). Canadian Justyn Knight won the 5000 m in 14:14.07. In women finals Kate Hall long jump 673 (over triple record holder Keturah Orji 652), Maggie Ewen shot put 18.49 and Nicole Greene 187 in high jump. Taliyah Brooks scored 4572 points in pentathlon. Karissa Schwiezer got the 5000 m in 15:43.23. In prelims Raheem Chambers and Elijah Hall 6.56, Hall also clocked super fast 20.26 in the 200 m, Michael Norman 45.56 in the 400 m. On the women side Gabrielle Thomas equaled World lead 22.66, the same for Linna Irby and Sydney McLaughlin PB 22.68, she was fastest in 400 m heats 51.34 ahead of Sharrika Barnett 51.49 and Lynna Irby 51.51 with Kendall Ellis 51.59. Aleia Hobbs was the fastest in 60 m heats 7.12 and Payton Chadwick 7.93 in the hurdles.
