The semi finals were revealing in that Marshevet Hooker ran a 10.89, wind-aided and Torri Edwards got a 10.78 wind aided.
In the final Torri Edwards and Marshevet Hooker got out well, and for once, Allyson Felix, Lauryn Williams and Muna Lee all had decent starts, just a bit behind. Williams began her acceleration at about 30 meters and started to move on Hooker and Edwards. Felix was running well, but had no one to run with. As Lauryn Williams moved ahead of Hooker, Muna Lee began her long charge to the finish.
Muna Lee, back in good health, back under the thoughtful eyes of Pat Henry, showed the promise that her competitors like Lauryn knew she had, and, running a legal 10.85 to take first place! In second, Torri Edwards, on the lean took the silver with Lauryn Williams in third, both in 10.90. Running fantastic heats, Marshevet Hooker took fourth in 10.93, with Allyson Felix in 10.96 in fifth. In sixth, Angela Williams ran 11.02 with Mechelle Lewis in seventh in 11.08 and LaShaunte Moore in eighth in 11.22
The track here is fast, but combine that with the heat, the competition, the event was primed for some fast sprinting.
The tough position will be for the Olympic coaches to now pick their 4 x 100 meter relay team. If the U.S. team does not jell and practice, then the Jamaican women look to be the prohibitive favorites.
