I wanted to share with you a series on Danny Mackey. Danny Mackey is the founding coach for the Brooks Beast TC, one of the top clubs in the US dedicated to middle and long distance runners. It is, along with Hansons Brooks Distance Project, Brooks committment to running is daily reinforced with the Brooks Beasts, who are seen on the Brooks campus on many days. I also wanted you to realize that not all things in athletics come on the schedule that is planned. Danny Mackey is that coach who keeps going when his athletes have both good days and rough days. Why? Because the good days are just around the corner…

Being in New York for the #MillroseGames is always a highlight. Watch the Beasts tomorrow at 4pm ET on NBC because if any one of them wins, they promised to do a @thenotoriousmma inspired interview since he’s in town. #BeastsTC #GoLSport #beetelite

Danny Mackey is a student of the sport. In the winter of 2018, he had two memorable successes. Drew Windle made the US team for the World Indoors, and battled through the rounds to win the silver in the 800 meters at the World Indoors in Birmingham, England. Danny used some of his diplomatic skills in, with the support of USATF, getting Drew reinstated in a physical final of the 800 meters. Katie Mackey, one of the first Brooks Beasts, after eight attempts, made her first internaitonal team, at 3000 meters, using a killer last 200 meters to hold off Emma Coburn.

In this video, first posted in the summer of 2016, Danny Mackey provides the viewer the information one needs to prepare for the 800 meter and their season. How will the final be? How do you prepare for three rounds? How do you run a fast race after three rounds? That was all the challenges that Danny Mackey had to prepare his athletes for, and, it gives you an appreciation of coaches who dedicate day in, day out, to preparing their athletes to run their best and find their limits.
