POWELL OUT FOR 14 DAYS
LIGNANO (ITA): Injured groin of Jamaican sprinting star Asafa Powell is the reason that he will not be able to compete for next week. That means he will miss his planned meet in Paris . Next for him will be Stockholm, London and possibly Monte Carlo. On Sunday Powell was guest at International meeting in Lignano. In this city he is based while staying in Europe.
TWELL WINS IN POLAND (MORE TO FOLLOW)
BYDGOSZCZ (POL, July 13): 18 year old Steph Twell (GBR) took the biggest victory of her life with gold in the 1500m in the IAAF World Junior T&F Champs in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The Mick Woods coached athlete, who missed several months of training with injury early in the season, has shown her remarkable talent over the past few weeks, improving steadily session by session on her way to the global crown. In a tactical race Twell was content to sit behind Ethiopian Kalkidan Gezahegne over the first 3 laps before unleashing a 44 secs last 300m to win the title in 4:15.09. Training partner Emma Pallant (GBR) took the bronze medal to complete a magnificent day for Mick Woods. More to follow.

BRUSSELS (BEL, July 12): European champion Kim Gevaert is again healthy as she clocked good 11.33 at a meet here. She is so ready for belgian meetings during next week in Liege and Heusden. Excellent 400 m times for Borlee brothers. Kevin clocked 45.21 and Jonathan 45.38. And between them was French Leslie Djhone with season best 45.35.
UDEN (NED, July 12): European Indoor champion Arnaud Okken won the 1500 m during International Keien Meeting but in solo race was far away from olympic standards (3:41.47). US veteran Jeff Hartwig won the Pole Vault (555) as home star and 2005 World Champion Rens Blom jumped only 540 for third. US Dan Huling achieved 8:27.84 in steeple and Kenyan Robert Bett 1:45.97 at 800 m.
JOCKGRIM (GER, July 12): Australian world indoor medalist Steven Hooker was the best at special Pole Vault meet in Germany. He jumped over 580 before 3000 spectators, second Alexander Straub improved to 575 and third Tim Lobinger got 563. US Lacy Janson was the best woman with 451 ahead of Kristina Gadschiew (446), US Jillian Schwartz (441) and Italian Elena Scarpellini who cleared PB 436 and missed national record 441 cm.
VIGO (ESP, July 12): Excellent 10 000 m times at Spanish Championships for the distance paced by Kenyan runners. Juan Carlos de la Ossa won with european leading 27:28.31, second Carles Castillejo improved to 27:39.79 and third Ayad Lamdassem achieved 27:45.58. Fourth Surandra Singh of India achieved new national record 28:02.89. Isabel Checa won the women race in B-olympic qualifier 32:07.78.
PERGINE (ITA, July 12): Even faster 10 000 m in Italy. Ethiopian Abebe Dinkesa clocked 27:17.27. Second Felix Kibore of Qatar got 27:35.12 as second.
