Su 9.92, Naser 50.09 – Games records
JAKARTA (INA, Aug 26): On the second day of athletics at the Asian Games, China’s Su Bingtian won the 100m in a championship record of 9.92 (+0.8) ahead of Qatar’s Tosin Ogunode (10.00) and Japan’s Ryoto Yamagata (10.00) with Saudi Arabian Abudllah Mohammd 10.10. Su was just 0.01 off the Asian record which he holds jointly with Femi Ogunode. Reigning world U20 champion Lalu Muhammad Zohri was seventh in 10.20.
Another top mark of the day was Games record in women 400 m as Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain clocked 50.09 over Indian World U20 Champion Hima Das who improved her senior and U20 national record to 50.79. Bahrain’s Edidong Odiong edged out India’s Dutee Chand in the women’s 100m, 11.30 to 11.32 (+0.3), with China’s Wei Yongli (11.33).
Qatar´s World medalist Abdalaleh Haroun won the 400 m in 44.89 over Muhammad Anas of India 45.69 and Bahrain´s Ali Abbas 45.70. There was another championship record and a Chinese title in the long jump with Wang Jianan winning with 8.24 (+0.7) ahead of teammate Zhang Yaoguang (8.15, 0.0) with hosts Indonesia winning bronze courtesy of Sapwaturrahman who jumped a national record of 8.09 (0.0).
Also on the track, South Korea’s Jung Hye-Lim won the 100m hurdles title in 13.20 (+0.2) from Indonesia’s Emilia Nova (13.33) and Bahrain took a one-two in the men’s 10,000m with Hassan Chani (28:35.54) and Abraham Cheroben (29:00.29) taking gold and silver. Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba also eased through into the 400m hurdles final in 49.34. World champion Gong Lijiao won the shot put by more than two metres from teammate Gao Yang, 19.66m to 17.64m, and there was an upset in the men’s hammer with Qatar’s Ashraf El-Seify defeating reigning three-time champion and Olympic champion Dilshod Nazarov, 76.88m to 76.14m. Japan’s Keisuke Ushiro defended his decathlon title with 7878 points from Thailand’s Suttisak Singkhon (7809 national record).
