Salpeter gets European marathon lead 2018
FLORENCE (ITA, Nov 25): European 10 000 m champion Lonah Chemtai Salpeter made a huge improvement in the Florence Marathon, improving from 2:40:16 to 2:24:17 (72:37/71:40) to smash the Israeli record (2:35:59) and course record (2:28:15) and top the 2018 European lists. Chemtai Salpeter finished tenth overall and won the women’s race by more than six minutes ahead of Kenya’s Caroline Chepkwony (2:30:46) and Rwanda’s Clementine Mukandanga (2:30:59). Bahrain’s Ali Abdu Gelelchu clocked 2:11:32 to win on his debut from Morocco’s Hicham Boufars (2:12:16) and Kenya’s Gilbert Kirwa (2:13:08).
