2 World leads Rojas 15.06 and Caballero 69.20

HUELVA (ESP, Jun 20): The Meeting Iberoamericano in Huelva was highlighted by two world leading performances. World champion Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela went out to a world lead and lifetime best of 15.06m in the triple jump and Cuba’s Denia Caballero extended her world lead to 69.20m in the discus ahead of teammate Yaime Perez (67.27m) and Brazil’s Andressa De Morais (63.90m). There were also good quality Cuban wins for Roxana Gomez in the 400m in 52.37 and for Zurian Hechavarria who won the 400m hurdles in 55.40 from Vera Rudakova in 55.82. Also on the track, European indoor champion Alvaro de Arriba scored a home win in the 800m in 1:46.28 ahead of Poland’s Mateusz Borkowski (1:46.52) and Adel Mechaal won the 1500m in 3:38.69 ahead of Spanish teammate Kevin Lopez in 3:39.09. Other top marks came from Eritrea’s Yemane Haileselassie (8:23.06) and Kenya’s Daisy Jepkemei (9:29.46) in the 3000m steeplechase, Uganda’s Esther Chebet in the 1500m in 4:07.26 and Ethiopia’s Tadese Worku in the 5000m in 13:27.59 while the track programme concluded with Laura Garcia-Caro winning the 5000m race walk in 22:30.29. Also on the in-field, Greece’s Michail Anastasakis won the hammer with 74.44m and Germany’s Sara Gambetta won the shot put with 18.40m.
