DOHA NEWS

KINGSTON (JAM): Star female sprinters Elaine Thompson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce were selected for both 100 m and 200 m by Jamaican federation for Doha. Also talented Briana Williams is in Jamaica’s team for the 100 m pending the outcome of her case on 25 Sept. Meanwhile, Akeem Bloomfield is named to contest the men’s 400m and 4×400. Bloomfield ran the 200m at Trials and finished fourth. Bloomfield’s training partner, Nathon Allen, who did not participate at the Trials, is selected to the 4x400m squad. Yohan Blake is selected for both 100 m and 200 m, in the 100 m also Tyquendo Tracey and Rasheed Dwyer, in the 200 m also Dwyer and Andre Ewers. In the 400 m apart of Bloomfield also Demish Gaye and Rusheen McDonald. Only entry in the 400 m hurdles is Kemar Mowatt, but in the 110 m hurdles due to Omar McLeod wild card also Ronald Levy, Orlando Bennett and Andrew Riley. In women 200 m as third Schillonie Calvert-Powell. In the 400 m Shericka Jackson, Anastasia Le-Roy and Stephanie-Ann McPherson. In the 100 m hurdles Danielle Williams as DL winner with Janeek Brown, Megan Tapper and Yanique Thompson. In the 400 m hurdles Janieve Russell, Rushell Clayton and Rhonda Whyte. Natoya Goule is in the 800 m and Ashia Praught-Leer for 1500 m. In jumps Tajay Gayle in long jump and Jordan Scott in triple, in women jumps Tisanna Hickling and Chanice Porter long with Shanieka Ricketts and Kimberly Williams in triple. At the end of selection 7 throwers, four men Fedrick Dacres, Traves Smikle and Chad Wright in discus, among women Shadae Lawrence and Shanice Love. In shot put O´Dayne Richards and Danniel Thomas-Dodd.

COPENHAGEN (DEN): Danish team for Doha has strong women. The whole 4×100 m relay team, Sara Slott Petersen in the 400 m hurdles and Ana Emilie Moller for steeple and 5000 m. As only male for the moment for marathon This Nijhuis.

DUBLIN (IRL): Irish team for Doha with Thomas Barr in the 400 m hurdles, Ciara Mageean for women 1500 m. In the 20 km walk Alex Wright and 50 km Brendan Boyce, men´s marathon representative will be Stephen Scullion.

BRUSSELS (BEL): Belgian team for Doha has currently 13 athletes for individual events. Main name is Nafi Thiam for heptathlon. Also Isaac Kimeli and Robin Hendrix for 5000 m, Ben Broeders for pole vault and Thomas Van der Plaetsen for decathlon. Women are Anne Zagre for 100 m hurdles, Hanne Claes and Paulien Couckuyt for 400 m hurdles, Claire Orcel in high jump. Also looking for sure to be invited are Jonathan Sacoor, Ismael Debjani for 1500 m, Soufiane Bouchikhi for 10 000 m and Hanne Maudens for hepathlon. Waiting for invitations are Fanny Smets in pole vault, Renee Eykens for 800 m, Philip Milanov in discus and Michael Obasuyi in the 110 m hurdles. Also 4×400 m men and women and also mixed relay.

AMSTERDAM (NED): Netherlands has 30 athletes in the team for Doha, 19 women and 11 men. Main names Dafne Schippers for 100 m and 200 m, Sifan Hassan (1500 m, 5000 m, 10 000 m). The top athletes will spent last weeks before World Championships at a training camp in Belek, Turkey. Going will be both 4×100 m teams, men and women and also women 4×400 m. Also Maureen Koster for 5000 m, Susan Krumins for 10 000 m, Nadine Visser for 100 m hurdles, Femke Bol for 400 m hurdles, Killian Heijmans in pole vault, Jorinde van Klinken for discus, for heptathlon Anouk Vetter, Nadine Broersen and Emma Oosterwegel. Men other than sprinters will be Nick Smidt for 400 m hurdles, Rutger Koppelaar and Menno Vloon for pole vault, Douwe Amels in high jump, Denzel Comenentia for hammer and shot and Pieter Braun in decathlon.

ZURICH (SUI): Switzerland federation confirmed IAAF invitations for Sarah Atcho in the 200 m, Selina Buchel in the 800 m and Nicole Buchler for pole vault.

ALGER (ALG): The 2012 Olympic champion and 2016 double silver medalist Taoufik Makhloufi is not 100% ready yet to line up both on the 800m and 1500m and has opted for the 1500m in Doha. The Algerian achieved a time of 3:31.77 at the Paris Diamond League on August 24, which ranks him 11th in the 2019 world lists. From Carole Fuchs.

ADDIS ABABA (ETH): Top 800m runner Habitam Alemu (1:56.71 in 2018) is injured and couldn’t be included in the team. Her last competitive race was the Stanford Diamond League on June 30th (5th in 1:59.25).

LAGOS (NGR): The Nigerian men’s 4x100m was granted an invitation by the IAAF to compete in Doha. The team, that finished 2nd of the African Games in 38.59, was just outside the 6th best ranked teams with their time of 38.52 from the 2018 Commonwealth Games and likely benefited from the decision by another eligible country not to enter. It means Africa will have 3 representatives in sprint relay South Africa, Ghana and Nigeria. From Carole Fuchs.

SAO PAULO (BRA): Brazil confirmed selection of 41 athletes for Doha, 24 men and 17 women. Top names are Darlan Romani in shot put, Thiago Braz and Augusto Dutra for pole vault, Caio Bonfim in the 20 km walk and sprinter Paulo Andre. New star is the U20 400 m hurdles sensation Alison Alves dos Santos, also female walker Erica De Sena and high hurdler Gabriel Constantino. Brazil counts with men and women 4×100 m and mixed 4×400 m. Not included is triple jumper Nubia Soares due to an injury.

BUDAPEST (HUN): The Hungarian federation has confirmed 2020 Olympic hammer champion Krisztián Pars has received an IAAF rankings invite, the Hungarian federation has announced.

HELSINKI (FIN): Sara Kuivisto (1500m) and Krista Tervo (hammer) will be added to Finland’s team for the World Championships after receiving IAAF rankings invites, the country’s federation has confirmed.

BERLIN (GER): German 100m silver medallist Kevin Kranz, who has been suffering with glandular fever, has ended his season early and thus is longer on the sprint relay squad for the World Championships. From Leichtathletik.de.

NETHERLANDS (NED): Dafne Schippers says she will trust her team and experience as she seeks to defend her world 200m title in Doha despite a back injury caused by a fall in February hampering her preparation. She says she has had pain in the starting blocks and at the start later on in the season, nos.nl reports.

TOKYO (JPN): The Japanese federation has announced several additions for the World Championships. Also, 9.97 100m runner Abdul Hakim Sani Brown has pulled out of the 200m to concentrate on the 100m and relay. Steeplechaser Kazuya Shiojiri has withdrawn from the team due to an injury in Zagreb last week. From Japan Running News.

WARSZAWA (POL): Discus thrower Bartlomiej Stoj got IAAF invitation for Doha. Out due to elbow injury is javelin thrower Cyprian Mrzyglod.

INDIANAPOLIS (USA): Double amputee Blake Leeper has been ruled ineligible by the IAAF to compete in Doha while an advisory group determines whether his prosthetic legs give him an advantage over other competitors. By placing fifth in the US 400m championship in 44.48 (44.38 semi) he could have been picked for the 4x400m relay squad. From Athletics International.
