Emma Coburn and Sydney McLaughlin both have 2 medals in WCs. In 2017, Emma Coburn won the gold in the steeplechase, and in 2019, she took the silver. Sydney McLaughlin won the silver in the 400m H and gold in the 4x400m. These two athletes are huge draws at this fine meet in sport mad Boston!

BOSTON, Mass. (Dec. 5, 2019) – Sydney McLaughlin and Emma Coburn, two of the USA’s most exciting track and field athletes, will return to the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, organizers announced today.

Tickets for the event on Jan. 25, which forms part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour, are now on sale at www.nbindoorgrandprix.com or by calling 1-877-849-8722.

Returning to compete at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix for the third time will be Sydney McLaughlin. The 20-year-old is coming off a stellar first season in the professional ranks that saw her win the silver medal over 400m hurdles and gold in the 4x400m relay at the World Athletics Championships in Doha. McLaughlin also won the Diamond League title and ended the season with a lifetime best of 52.22 for the 400m hurdles, making her the second-fastest woman in history of the event. In Boston, McLaughlin will compete in the 500m.

Also returning to Boston with a medal from the World Athletics Championships is Emma Coburn, who will be making her sixth appearance at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. Coburn, the 2017 World Champion in the 3000m Steeplechase, won the silver medal at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, and earned her eighth US national title in the steeplechase. She will line up in the women’s two mile in Boston.

Great Britain’s top ranked men’s 1500m specialist, Jake Wightman, is also set to come back to the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. Wightman won bronze medals over 1500m at both the Commonwealth Games and European Championships in 2018, and finished fifth in the 1500m final at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha in a time of 3:31.87, a lifetime best and a new Scottish record. He will race in the 1000m in Boston.

The 2020 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix kicks off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College and is the only U.S. stop on the World Athletics Indoor Tour. The series of seven international events with stops in Karlsruhe and Düsseldorf (Germany), Torun (Poland), Glasgow (Great Britain), Liéven (France) and Madrid (Spain) awards overall tour winners $20,000 and a guaranteed spot at the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China (March 13-15).

Now in its 25th year, the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix has played host to nine world records and 13 American records.
