The Madrid meeting is intimate, and exciting. Sitting on the finish line stretch in 2019, I enjoyed the jumps and pole vault by Ahzelhika Siderova. The 60m hurdles and sprints got the 2,200 fans excited.

2020 was no exception.

Triple WR by Rojas

MADRID (ESP, Feb 21): Yulimar Rojas produced the second best ever triple jump – indoors or outdoors – with 15.43 World Indoor record at the final stage of the World Athletics Indoor Tour. Juan Miguel Echevarria also set a world lead, with 8.41m. Also in 8 events new meeting records before capacity crowd of 3000. Winners of the tour events are getting Wild Cards for Nanjing 2021 World Indoors. In women 60 m hurdles and men 3000 m the tour winner was determined by the best result from the tour as two athletes had the same points.

Men
60m – The Tour title went to Ronnie Baker after his 6.44 win. In second and third Demek Kemp (6.48 PB) and Jan Volko (6.55 NR for Slovakia).
400m – Samuel Garcia clocked 46.39 for the win in this national event.
800m – Collins Kipruto secured the Tour win with a meeting record of 1:46.09. Adam Kszczot was second with 1:46.30 and third Mariono Garcia with 1:46.31 PB .
3000m – World No.1 and steeple World medalist Getnet Wale confirmed his Tour win with a narrow 7:39.66 victory from Bethwel Bergen (7:40.23) and Selemon Barega (7:40.30).
60m hurdles – With his fourth win in four this season, Andrew Pozzi was just 0.01 off the European lead with a 7.48 season’s best. Yaqoub Mohamed Al Youha was second in 7.52 NR for Kuweit.
Long jump – With three jumps over the previous world lead, Juan Miguel Echevarria recorded 8.33m, 8.31m and 8.41m. Three more jumped over 8 m headed by Miltiadis Tentoglou 807.
Triple jump – After two fouls in the opening two rounds, favourite Hugues Fabrice Zango found 17.31m enough to win on the day and the Tour.
Shot – Filip Mihaljevic took victory and, with it, the Tour win with last throw. His Croatian indoor mark of 21.74m took him past Konrad Bukowiecki’s 21.73m. Tomas Stanek was third with 21.54m.
Pole vault – Konstantinos Filippidis beat Igor Bychkov into second as both cleared 5.60m.

Women

400m – Justyna Swiety-Ersetic sealed the Tour win with victory in 51.93 from Lea Sprunger (52.26).
1500m – With a winning 4:04.66, Gudaf Tsegay ended up the Tour winner. Lemlem Hailu was second in 4:05.24 and Amimawit Embaye was third in 4:05.43.
60m hurdles – Missing a world lead by 0.02, Christina Clemons set a season’s best 7.82 to win the race and the Tour as Nia Ali was second with 7.88.
Triple jump – Yulimar Rojas’ 15.43m in the final round added 7cm to the world indoor record. Already the second longest jumper in history, she added 2cm to her outright PB and is 7cm short of Inessa Kravets’ world outdoor mark. That came after 15.29m in the fourth round, which had been second best indoor mark ever.
