The Road To Atlanta- 8 Quick Questions With Jordan Hasay!

By Jeff Benjamin

1)How’s your body feeling leading up to Atlanta?

“I am feeling great as we have approached the taper. I tore my hamstring in October so the build up was cautious and a balance between letting that heal and getting in the training but I feel that it is ready for the marathon.”

2) As you get older, do you notice any differences in your recoveries from your races/workouts and do you address them any differently than say 5 years ago?

“Definitely! I cannot just get up and go haha. I have 30 mins of stretches pre run and have to make sure to get much more treatment and recovery such as massage, acupuncture and cyrotherapy.”

3) Is weight training and the anti-gravity underwater running still a huge component of your training regimen?

“Yes, I use a body weight system called Lightspeed lift which offloads some weight. Strength training is a huge component to my program and I’m in the gym 6 days a week.”

4) Is there anything uniquely different in your training under your new coach that you’ve never done before?

“I am on an 8 day cycle now and every 8th day is a complete rest day- no cross training, just completely off. It’s very nice and has kept me fresher and injury free.”

5) How Cool is it being advised by Paula Radcliffe- Kind of like a Basketball nut playing pickup with Lebron James?

“I am honored that she offered to help and we have developed a really great relationship.”

6) As per the trials race, -similar to Galen Rupp- I’ve always seemed to assume that you’ve never concerned yourself with your competitors in a race but rather you are concerned about how YOU are doing in that particular race – is that a fair assessment?

“Yes definitely. I think especially in the marathon the distance itself is such a task that you have to focus on your own process.”

7) What are the chances we might see you in the 5000 or 10,000 at the track trials in June?

“Possibly! I will likely focus on a fall marathon whether it be the Olympics hopefully if not another but might do track if it fits in with my recovery from this race.”

8) Finally – What keeps you motivated & inspired to keep on going?

“I just feel privileged and grateful to be able to spread the gift of running and movement. I hope to inspire the younger generation of athletes.”
