fbk.jpgOh, how I love the FBK Games. In 2011, I met Marcin Lewandowski there, and we went from Amsterdam to Hengelo via car. I also spent time in airport in 2012 with Dathan Ritzenhein, after he ran for the 10,000m there. It was also the place where I would see Jos Hermans team and I have grown very fond of them.

The meet will be back in 2021. I hope to be there.

HENGELO – March 24, 2020. The 39th edition of the FBK Games has been cancelled following Dutch government measures forbidding all events until at least June 1st. The FBK Games will not take place later this year but have released June 6, 2021 as their new date.

Global Sports Communication, organiser of the FBK Games states that cancelling the FBK Games and it’s side-events was the only right thing to do with the current situation worldwide. The health of athletes, fans, volunteers and everyone else involved takes the highest priority. The FBK Games was supposed to celebrate it’s first edition as being a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event.

‘The only responsible decision’
Ellen van Langen, Meeting Director FBK Games: “It’s with a heavy heart that we had to take this decision. Together with everyone else we have an obligation to stop this virus and therefore this is the only right thing to do. We have looked at opportunities to organize the event at a later date this year but due to an overloaded sportscalender later in the fall it proved impossible to organize an event at the level that we want to give to our fans and the athletes. We have decided to postpone the event by a year and organize it on June 6, 2021.”

Jos Hermens, Director Global Sports Communication, adds: “Not just for us but it’s also a pity for all the athletes who love coming tot he FBK Games. But there are more important things than sport going on in the world right now. Let’s make sure together that we get this virus under control and sport will find it’s way back in the everyday life in our society.”

Partners and sponsors
“On behalf of the organisation I want to thank our sponsors and partners for their support during this situation. In times like these you see that strong partners such as the FBK Businessclub, Province of Overijssel, City of Hegelo en loyal sponsors are essential. We promise an incredible event in 2021.” Said Hans Kloosterman (Meeting Director FBK Games)

Tickets
Visitors who have already purchased a ticket will be contacted by the organisation.
They can decide whether to use their ticket for 2021 or to request a refund.
