Wayde Van Niekerk is the WR in the 400m, at 43.03. He has won two gold medals at the 400m in WC and one in the Rio Olympics. He is in rehab now after an injury playing a game of rugby. On his way back, Wayde has the desire, can he come back to past levels of excellence?
PRETORIA (RSA): Olympic 400m champion Wayde van Niekerk believes his best is yet to come. The South African, who set his world record of 43.03 in 2016, said: “I still believe I can go sub-43. I can go way better than what I have in 100m and 200m, that’s where my mind was before the injury and that’s where my mind is at for the future.” Van Niekerk, who hasn’t been able to put together a string of races since his 2017 autumn knee injury, said: “I never entertained the fact of never recovering fully. My mind knew what needs to be done to get as far away from the position I was in at that moment. I was driven by what moves need to be taken so that I can get back to the track and compete again, that’s where my mind and my heart was at.” From Olympic Channel.
