Solomon Barega has run 12:43.02. Kenenisa Bekele’s WR is the iconic 12:37.35 for 5000 meters.
Barega wants the 5000m record. Barega has some ideas on making the 5000m WR record his. Can he do it? We shall have to wait and see. My humble opinion will be that it will be hard as hell in 2020.

ADDIS ABABA (ETH): Ethiopian World medalist Solomon Barega wants to attack the 5000 m World record of his countryman Kenenisa Bekele. He said that in an interview with one of the Ethiopian radio stations. “I was preparing for the Olympics,” said Barega, “unfortunately due to corona virus pandemic it was postponed to 2021. I was eager to participate at my first Games. Of course in an Olympic year no one aims to break records, but now this year has some space.” Barega´s PB is 12:43.02 from 2018, Bekele´s WR is 12:37.35 from 2004.
