Larissa Iappichino is athletic royalty in Italy. Her mother, Fiona May, was Olympic silver at the LJ in both Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000). Fiona May took 4 WC medals: gold in Goteborg (1995) and Edmonton (2001), silver in Seville (1999) and bronze in Athens (1997). The mark of 6.80m, set today by Larissa Iappichino, is number 2 on the Italian list. Numero Uno? Well, it’s her Mom, Fiona May, at 7.11m (set in 1998)! A big day in Italy, I must say!

SAVONA (ITA, July 16): 17-year-old Larissa Iappichino set an Italian junior record of 6.80m (+0.7) to go to second on nation’s all-time list behind her mother, Fiona May. Davide Re won the 400m in a meeting record 45.31 over Vladimir Aceti 45.84 and Edoardo Scotti 46.08. Another meeting record went to Briton Andrew Pozzi in the 110m hurdles with 13.30 (+1.6). Also setting new figures were Filippo Randazzo in the long jump with 8.12m (+1.4) and Leonardo Fabbri in the shot with 21.15m. With a following wind of 1.3, Filippo Tortu beat Lamont Jacobs 10.12 to 10.14 in the 100m. Ivet Lalova-Collio won the 200m in 23.13 (+1.9). Luminosa Boglio the 100m hurdles with 12.86 (+2.5) over Elisa Maria Di Lazzaro 12.89. Teresa Rossi, with 1.87m, beat Elena Vallortigara (1.84m) in the high jump. Also to note 11.30 (+2.0) in the 100 m by Anna Bongiorni, Rebecca Borga clocked 52.98 in the 400 m.

This puts her 10th on Euro U20 all-time list, one place behind her mother @realfionamay69

Iapichino is still only 17. Only 3 women have ever jumped farther at that age
