This is a big deal. The IOC had been swatting the fingers of the World Athletics like the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondalet had swatted this writer’s hands so many, many, years ago. But the IOC is was not doing it due to improper penmanship, but due to bad publicity that the WA had endured since 2015.
Seb Coe is a politician, and athletics needs such a skill set to promote the sport within the virtual halls of the IOC.
Seb Coe elected as IOC Member
LAUSANNE (SUI): World Athletics president Seb Coe has been elected as member of the International Olympic Committee. At the IOC session, held virtually, 77 of the 85 valid votes supported his appointment, BBC reports. Coe said: “As president of World Athletics I’m absolutely delighted to represent our sport in the Olympic movement as an IOC member. Thank you to all of you who voted for our sport, our federation today, and I look forward, our whole sport looks forward, to working even more closely with all of you in reforming and building all sports. At this time, of all times, the need for community and elite sport to thrive and flourish, has probably never been more important.”
