This is a quick update on the 10th Gyulai Istvan Meeting on 20 August.

Brazier 1:15.07, double for Lyles, Zango and Visser WL


SZEKESFEHERVAR (HUN, Aug 19): World 800m champion Donavan Brazier closed the 10th Istvan Gyulai Memorial (WACT Gold) programme without spectators with victory in the 600m in 1:15.07 (meet record), coming from behind to beat Wesley Vazquez from Puerto Rico in 1:15.31. Burkina Faso’s Fabrice Hugues Zango won the triple jump with a world leading 17.43 (+1.1, he also jumped 17.40m) in a good quality competition from Christian Taylor (17.34, +0.4) and Pedro Pablo Pichardo (17.28, +1.0) and Nadine Visser equalled her world lead of 12.68 (-0.2) in the 100m hurdles ahead of Luca Kozak who set a big Hungarian record of 12.71 on home soil. World 200m champion Noah Lyles won the 100m in 10.05 (+0.3) from Adam Gemili in 10.28 before winning the 200m as a late entrant in 20.13 (+1.3) over Eseosa Desalu 20.35 EL. World leader Femke Bol from the Netherlands ran out an easy victor in the 400m hurdles in rain in 54.67 from Ukraine’s Hanna Ryzhykova in 55.86 and there was very nearly another Dutch win in the women’s 400m with Wadeline Jonathas holding off Lieke Klaver, 52.09 to 52.11. In other track events Orlando Ortega edged out world champion Grant Holloway in the 110m hurdles, 13.21 to 13.22 (+0.3) to be crowned the holder of Bojidar Spiriev Trophy for the best result of the meet, and there were US wins in the 400m for Kahmari Montgomery in 45.50 and in the 400m hurdles for David Kendziera in 50.00. In the field events, European champion Wojciech Nowicki from Poland won a good quality hammer with 78.07m from Hungary’s Bence Halasz (78.00m) with teenager Myhaylo Kokhan from Ukraine improving to 77.78m and France’s Alexandra Tavernier won the women’s hammer with 73.09m. Belarus’ Nastassia Mironchyk-Ivanova won the long jump with 6.77 (+2.1, legal 673) by one centimetre from Ukraine’s Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk 6.76 (+1.3) and world champion Daniel Stahl won the discus with 67.31m from European champion Andrius Gudzius with 67.08m.
