Karsten Warholm had an amazing double in Stockholm. His WL at 400m hurdles (46.87) and 400m SB at 45.05, both done in 93 minutes, is impressive.

Warholm likes lane 8 after today
STOCKHOLM (SWE, Aug 23): Despite the challenging conditions for sporting events in Sweden, Bauhaus Galan in legendary Olympic stadium in Stockholm was even without spectators a top success. Karsten Warholm was the star of the meet iin windy conditions with unbelievable 400 m hurdles European record 46.87 and after 1:33 hrs European lead in the 400 m 45.05 (both in lane 8). Armand Duplantis cleared World lead 601, another top mark of the season in women 1500 m and high jump. In total, more than 100 athletes from 35 countries and four continents competed and 158 countries recieved the TV signal. The stadium was filled with yellow figures as a thank you to those who support the meet. Anyone who bought a support ticket has the option to upload own picture which was printed on a grandstand figure.
Event by event short review
Men
200m – First win of the season for Adam Gemili in 20.61 (+3.0) from Sweden’s Felix Svensson in 20.75.
400m – Karsten Warholm got his second win of the day in 45.05 ahead of Slovenia’s Lukas Janezic in 45.85. Only the top two broke the 46 second-barrier.
800m – Donavan Brazier won his third race of the month in 1:43.76 from Canada’s Marco Arop in 1:44.67. Andreas Kramer just missed his Swedish record by 0.01 in third with 1:45.04.
1500m – The order from Monaco was repeated with Kenya’s Timothy Cheruiyot (3:30.25) and Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen (3:30.74) finishing first and second. Australia’s Stewart McSweyn was third in a 3:31.48 PB. Filip Ingebrigtsen was a notable DNF.
400m hurdles – Karsten Warholm blasted to the second fastest time in history of 46.87. He broke his European record of 46.92 and he might have also broken the world record of 46.78 if he didn’t hit the tenth hurdle. Warholm won by more than two seconds from France’s Wilfried Happio in 49.14.
Long jump – Ruswahl Samaai won the Final Three format with 8.09 (+1.5) although Thobias Montler had the longest jump of the competition with 8.13 (+1.6).
Pole vault – Armand Duplantis set a stadium record and world outdoor lead of 6.01m on his first attempt. Ben Broeders was second with 5.73m while two-time world champion Sam Kendricks had to settle for third with 5.53m.
Discus – Another one-two for Swedish training partners Daniel Stahl and Simon Pettersson, 69.17m to 67.72m. Pettersson’s mark was also a lifetime best. European champion Andrius Gudzius was third with 66.80m.
Women
100m – Switzerland’s Ajla Del Ponte maintained her unbeaten run over 100m in 11.20 (+1.3) from Marije van Hunenstijn from the Netherlands in 11.28. Marie-Josee Ta Lou was third in a 11.32 season’s best.
400m – World fourth placer Wadeline Jonathas won in 51.94 from European fourth placer Laviai Nielsen in 52.16.
800m – Jemma Reekie was a comfortable winner ahead of world silver medallist Raevyn Rogers, 1:59.68 to 2:01.02.
1500m – Laura Muir ran a world leading time of 3:57.86 to win by a huge margin from teammates Laura Weightman (4:01.62) and Melissa Courtney-Bryant (4:01.81 PB). Kenya’s Hellen Obiri was a distant 11th in 4:10.53.
100m hurdles – Italy’s Luminosa Bogliolo broke the 13 second-barrier again in 12.88 (+1.4). In third, Mette Graversgaard set a Danish record of 13.13.
400m hurdles – Another victory for world leader Femke Bol in 54.68 from European silver medallist Hanna Ryzhykova from Ukraine in 55.19.
Long jump – Ukraine’s Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk jumped 6.85 (+1.6) in the Final Three format, the longest jump of the competition. Khaddi Sagnia jumped an outdoor PB of 6.83 (+1.6) but only finished third after Caterine Ibarguen had a better effort in the final round, 6.61 (+1.1) to 5.73m.
High jump – Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh cleared 2.00m on her third attempt to equal the world lead and defeat teammate Yuliya Levchenko with 1.98m.
Pole vault – Holly Bradshaw cleared 4.69m to win her first ever Diamond League competition. Swedes Angelica Bengtsson (4.62m) and Michaela Meijer (with Tina Sutej, 452) were second and third respectively.
