Athletics Weekly is now in its 75th year. It began in 1945, post WW2 and they got paper to print premiere issue because the noted it was issue 3 and UK was in paper rationing. It was a worthy beginning and since 1945, AW has inspired many, including this writer.

AW 75th birthday issue
LONDON (GBR): The magazine AW, until recently known as Athletics Weekly, has marked its 75th birthday with a special anniversary issue. Starting in 1945 as a monthly, it existed for most of its history as a weekly until reverting to monthly this year, pausing only for a few months during the pandemic. The magazine quotes Usain Bolt as paying tribute: “I would like to congratulate Athletics Weekly on their 75 years anniversary. They were in Kingston, Jamaica, for my first big victory at the World Junior Championships in 2002 and every other championship in my career. I am honoured to have been on the cover 30 times. Best wishes for another 75 years covering the sport.” WA President Seb Coe first time appeared in the AW on March 13, 1971, when winning the Yorkshire colts cross-country title aged 14.
