Some gutty Brits competed in Liévin last night. Stuart Weir completed this piece, 3/3, on the Meeting de Liévin!

Brits in Liévin

The first Brits of the evening take to the track in Lievin and it’s victory in the 800m for @JemmaReekie (2:00.64) 👏@keelyhodgkinson finishes in 4th (2:01.71)#WorldIndoorTour pic.twitter.com/HzlRPiqajL

There were several outstanding British performances in Liéven with wins for Jemma Reekie, Elliot Giles and Holly Bradshaw and a British record for Lura Muir. Jemma Reekie repeated her 2020 victory in the 800m. In a telephone interview, she told me that it was “always good to get the win” and that her race plan of sitting in for the first two laps and then pushing hard had worked fine. That was her only indoor race: “Just training now and working towards Tokyo and qualifying. Back on the roads, what I like to do”. When I asked how lockdown had been, she replied: “Not too badly. We’ve been away and stuff like that. Andy [Coach Andy Young] is so good at planning. I didn’t have to worry about anything because Andy had it sorted”. Keely Hodgkinson ran an excellent 2:01.71 for fourth place.

It’s a new British Record for @lauramuiruns in a blisteringly quick 1500m as she finishes 2nd in 3:59.58 with @mcourtneybryant also claiming an indoor PB in 3rd place (4:04.79) 🏃‍♀️#WorldIndoorTour pic.twitter.com/wbx5wiU3Mv

In the 1500m Laura Muir broke the British record running 3:59.58 for second place behind Gudaf Tsegay. Melissa Courtney-Bryant finished third in 4:04.79

It’s back to back victories for @HollyBradshawPV as she claims victory ahead of Katerina Stefanidi with a 4.73 clearance in the 5th round 👏#WorldIndoorTour pic.twitter.com/tZPacLaoAt

British record-holder Holly Bradshaw, who cleared 4.85m in Rouen last weekend, won the women’s competition (4.73m) with Olympic champion Katerina Stefanidi was second with 4.63m. What a great start to the year for Holly.

Elliot Giles won the 800 with a dominating run, finishing in 1:49.45. Guy Learmonth was fifth and Kyle Langford seventh in the B race. Langford led but was unable to keep up the pace while Learmonth finished strongly but left himself too much to do.
