Last winter, on January 16, 2021, Hughes Fabrice Zango set a new indoor world record in the Triple jump, having exceeded the 18-meter mark indoors for the very first time. Zango went 18.07m.

The Doha 2019 bronze medalist just did it outdoors. He’s just taken the lead for the TJ.

MONTREUIL (FRA, Jun 1): At the Meeting de Montreuil (WACT Bronze), Hugues Fabrice Zango set a world lead of 17.67m in the second round of the triple jump to equal the meeting record held by his coach Teddy Tamgho. Olympic champion Sandra Perkovic was back in excellent form with victory in the discus with 66.11m and Nafi Thiam cleared 1.89m in her first high jump competition of the season. On the track, Andrew Pozzi won the 110m hurdles in a European lead of 13.26 from Aurel Manga in 13.43 and home favourite Renelle Lamote won the women’s 800m in a fast 1:58.65 ahead of British youngster Ellie Baker in 1:59.54 PB. European indoor champion Patryk Dobek also won the men’s 800m in a European lead of 1:44.76 from Kenya’s Collins Kipruto in 1:44.80 and Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino continued her good form with victory in the women’s 400m in 50.66 from Cynthia Bolingo who smashed Kim Gevaert’s Belgian record with 50.75. There were 100m victories for Ivory Coast’s Arthur Gue Cisse (10.11) and Marie-Jose Ta Lou (11.06) and European champion Elvira Herman won the 100m hurdles in 12.93. Kenya’s Abel Kipsang won the 1500m in 3:33.99 and in the last race of the evening, Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet ran down Bahrain’s Kalkidan Gezahegne to win the 5000m in 14:52.06 to 14:52.92. Kenya’s Sheila Kiprotich was third in 14:54.06 and Burundi’s Francine Niyonsaba was fourth with 14:54.38 to secure the Olympic qualifying standard and break the 15 minute-barrier for the first time.
