Jakob Ingebrigtsen now has his first senior WR. His 3:30.60 came in a textbook Jakob race. Erik Sowinski, the zen pacer, took Jakob through 1000 meters, in a modest pace. Jakob and Samuel Tefara, the then world record holder, broke away from the field, and the Norwegian superstar took off!

Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke Tefara and with the final 100 meters, was by himself, pushing to the finish, with five thousand fans cheering him on!

Starting off the 2022 season with a new World record should show Jakob that his fitness level is very high!

Let’s see if he runs in Belgrade.

LIEVIN (FRA, Feb 17): Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais with 5000 spectators in North of France (with wave light first time indoors) confirmed its status as one of the best on the circuit (WIT Gold). One World Indoor record with World leads in other 6 events, European leads in other 2 events, and meeting records in 3 events was the great summary. Olympic winner Jakob Ingebrigtsen started the indoor season on the highest possible note with a World Indoor record in the 1500 m 3:30.60. Previous record holder Samuel Tefera was well beaten into second 3:33.70. Also, other distance races produced superb results. In women 3000 m Ethiopian Dawit Seyaum clocked 8:23.24 WL and MR, also 3rd best performer ever. Second Ejgayehu Taye 8:26.77 for 10th best ever. Men´s 3000 mended with the great battle of colleagues from the same group as Lamecha Girma 7:30.54 beat Olympic winner Selemon Barega 7:30.66 and Getnet Wale 7:30.88. Behind them Asian record for Birhanu Balew 7:31.77, the Swedish record for Andreas Almgren 7:34.31, and the Serbian record for Elzan Bibic 7:42.95. Gudaf Tsegay despite falling in the early stages of the race won the mile in meet record 4:21.72 over Axumawit Embaye 4:25.30, Spanish record for Esther Guerrero 4:28.54, and Finnish record for Sara Kuivisto 4:29.64. Jamaican Natoya Goule showed top dominance in the 800 m with 1:58.46 WL and NR over World champion Halimah Nakaayi 1:58.58, Ugandan record. In the final 2000 m, Samuel Zeleke clocked 4:57.00 WL over fading Asbel Kipsang 4:57.21 and Azzedine Habz 4:57.22 for the French record (6th best European ever). Spain´s Mariano Garcia confirmed his status in men´s 800 m in 1:46.29 ahead of British record holder Elliot Giles 1:46.50.
