This is the summary of day 2 of the British Championships, by Stuart Weir.

Day 2

A full and varied program lasting six hours kept the crowd entertained. There was high quality athletics, diversity, high drama, shocks, controversy…

Andrew Pozzi won the 60m hurdles, in which he is the world champion. The person most likely to challenge him, David King was DQed for a false start.

Elliot Giles just held off Guy Learmonth in a competitive 800m.

Amy Eloise Markovc, the reigning European Champion, just held off Amelia Quirk in the 3000m

Piers Copeland was 12/100 od a second ahead of Neil Gourley in the 1500 – an excellent scalp.

Laura Zialor had a shock win over Emily Borthwick on countback in the high jump.

Alex Haydock-Wilson, controlled the men’s 400 and finished first but was DQed for obstruction, giving victory to Ben Higgins. It will be interesting to see how the selectors process that one.

There was a race-walk which Tom Bosworth did not win! He is at the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Oman

The races of the day were the women’s 400 and 800, which are the subject of separate posts.
