The 2,500 fans in the Podium on Sunday, February 27, 2022, were entertained with some fine competitions. Christian Coleman owned the 60m with his WL 6.45 for the 60 meters. Ryan Crouser threw 22.51m, a new world leader in the men’s shot put. Garrett Scantling scored 6,382 points in the heptathlon. All three were world leaders. Some truly exciting battles, from the 400m to the 3000m.

SPOKANE (USA, Feb 27): A sold-out crowd at The Podium saw meet records in the men’s 1500m, the Heptathlon and men’s 60m Hurdles, and also World leads in men´s 60 m, shot put, and heptathlon at the USATF Indoor Championships. Both defending 60 m champions retained their titles, with Christian Coleman equaling the world lead with a 6.45 and Mikiah Brisco out-leaning Marybeth Sant Price for the women’s gold in 7.07. Three-time U.S. champion Marvin Bracy pushed Coleman all the way and tied his own lifetime best with a 6.48, while Sant Price finished in 7.08. World indoor record holder Grant Holloway continued his winning streak and equaled the meet record in 60 m hurdles 7.37, behind him making the team Jarret Eaton 7.47 and Aaron Mallett 7.54. Double Olympic winner Ryan Crouser achieved 22.51 WL for his third straight national indoor title over Josh Awotunde’s 21.74 PB. Tokyo Olympics 10th-place finisher Cole Hocker won the 1500 m in 3:39.09 MR ahead of Josh Thompson 3:39.24. Ajee’ Wilson sped to the front from the gun in the women’s 800m and was the clear winner in 2:01.72 with Olivia Baker second 2:02.14. Defending men’s 800m champion Bryce Hoppel followed the early pace of Erik Sowinski and ruled in fast 1:45.30 with Isaiah Harris taking the second spot in 1:46.30. Saturday´s third-place in the 1500 m, Elle Purrier St. Pierre was looking for redemption in the 3000 m and she achieved that in 8:41.53 ahead of Alicia Monson 8:43.96. It took three jumps for Vashti Cunningham to write her name in the record books again in the women’s high jump, clearing 191 to win her sixth straight U.S. indoor title and equal Eleanor Montgomery for the most wins in the event at the national championships. Tokyo Olympic decathlon fourth-placer and reigning champion Garrett Scantling used a lifetime best of 2:43.82 in the 1000 m to finish with 6382 WL and move to No. 9 on the world all-time list in the men’s heptathlon. Reigning champion Gabbi Cunningham was out of the blocks very quickly and won the women’s 60m hurdles in 7.82 PB. Alaysha Johnson who returned to serious competition in the event this year after a two-year hiatus placed second in 7.90. A last-round season-best of 819 elevated Jarrion Lawson from fourth to the top in the men’s long jump. Going into the final round, Marquis Dendy held the lead at 814. 2018 World Indoor champion Sandi Morris defended her U.S. title in the women’s pole vault with 480 over Olympic winner Katie Nageotte 475. Five years after winning his first U.S. indoor title in the men’s weight throw, Alex Young achieved 24.84 and won, Janee Kassanavoid was the best in women’s competition 24.28. Keturah Orji won the women’s triple jump with her first attempt of 14.28m, on the men side third title for Donald Scott 16.88. Trevor Bassitt in 45.75 and Lynna Irby 51.88 were the 400 m winners.
