Ceh beats Stahl in rain
LEIRIA (POR, Mar 12): Slovenian European U23 record holder Kristjan Ceh ended Olympic champion Daniel Stahl’s 18 competition win streak at the European Throwing Cup in Leiria with a throw of 66.11m in difficult rainy conditions to surpass Stahl’s third-round mark of 65.95m. Another Olympic medalist Simon Pettersson was third with 63.80m. Home favorite Auriol Dongmo continued her good form with a world outdoor lead of 19.68m to win the shot put from Jessica Schilder from the Netherlands (18.89m, an outdoor national record) and Fanny Roos (18.64m), Hungary’s Bence Halasz threw 76.69m in the hammer to defeat Spain’s Javier Cienfuegos (75.59m) and Latvia’s Lina Muze won the javelin with 58.12m. But the better result in the U23 category as still U20 Serbian talent Adriana Vilagos (18) achieved 60.72. Martynas Alekna, the son of the legendary Virgilijus, won the U23 discus with 58.09 for Lithuania. Ukrainian Mykhaylo Kokhan was the best in the U23 hammer 74.59, in U23 women shot put win for Turkey´s Pinar Akyol (18) 16.30.
