WORLD INDOORS DAY 3

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Yulimar Rojas: “Coming here, I knew it was the right time to achieve this (world record) and I took the chance. I did not want to miss this opportunity today… Now, I want to focus on the world outdoor championships in Oregon and I think there is a big chance of making a double-long jump and triple jump. If I am in shape and the conditions are good, I can do both. The 16m mark is my big goal. Every day, I am trying to add one more centimeter to get closer to it.”

Mondo Duplantis: “I feel like Belgrade is going to be a special place in my heart forever. I know how much Bubka has pushed this sport to where it is today. I want to do something similar to what he has done because we’re a lot more capable than we think we are. When you push the limits, you realize how possible the next (level) is.”

RESULTS OF THE DAY

3 World records, two of them fulfilling the overall category: 620 Mondo Duplantis and 15.74 Yulimar Rojas, both better than outdoor top marks. Rojas added 31cm to her own global indoor mark and surpassed her world outdoor record by 7cm. Mondo Duplantis took the world record up to 6.20m in the pole vault, sailing over at the third attempt as the very last act of the meeting. Also, Grant Holloway equalling his world record with 7.29 in the 60m hurdles semi-final.

SURPRISE OF THE DAY

Jakob Ingebrigtsen being outsprinted for gold by Samuel Tefera, who defended his 1500m title. The USA out in the heats of the men’s 4x400m, hampered by a hamstring injury for Isaiah Harris.
