The big lesson from Mujinga Kambundji’s victory in Belgrade is this. Lane 8, lane 1, lane 4, did not matter. Mujinga had the experience to keep her wits about her and run her own race. The Swiss star has come up through the Swiss system, and she has moved from the World Indoor Champs bronze to the World Indoor Champs gold in 4 years.

BERNE (SUI): Mujinga Kambundji admitted she was “a bit disappointed” to be drawn in lane eight in the World Indoor Championships final in Belgrade, informs European Athletics. “I felt a lot better this evening [in the semifinal] – I knew the race was OK but it wasn’t great yet and I knew I could run faster. At first, I was a bit disappointed I was in lane eight – usually, I prefer to be next to the others just to feel them but I know I couldn’t change it so I just have to focus on myself and just do the best race,” she said.
