In Moscow, Ivan Ukhov was defeated by Aleksandr Shustov in a series of jumps that went from 2.27m to 2.30m, to attempts at 2.33m……


UKHOV BEATEN
MOSCOW (RUS, Jan 29): After two excellent wins at Moravia High Jump Tour (237 and 234) the world leading high jumper Ivan Ukhov surprisingly lost. At special HJ meeting with music 14th Moscow Cup he cleared 227 in first. Aleksandr Shustov only in second, but then Ukhov registered a failure at 230 and Shustov cleared. Ukhov then went to 233 and twice did not jump. Third young Sergey Mudrov had also 227 over Ivan Ilyichev and Andrey Tereshin both 224.
KGOSIEMANG AND DENNISON
DRESDEN (GER, Jan 29): At fifth jumping indoor meeting in Dresden African champion Kabelo Kgosiemang won the men´s high jump with 225 clearance. He equaled so his own national indoor record. In women pole vault foreign athletes dominated. British record holder Kate Dennison cleared 450 and beat on count-back best current Czech Jirina Ptacnikova who improved her indoor best to 450. Both tried unsuccessfully at 460.
FOUNTAIN ATTACKING
UNIVERSITY PARK (USA, Jan 29): The US pentathlon record of 4753, held by Dee Dee Nathan, will be challenged on Friday at the Penn National Indoor Meeting. 2008 Olympic Silver medalist Hyleas Fountain, who now competes for Nike, will try for it. She started with solid 8.04 in 60 m hurdles and 181 in high jump. She needs to score a good mark in order to be in top three in the world 2010 to be invited for World Indoor Championships in Doha.
CLAY LEADS OVER SMITH
ALLSTON (USA, Jan 29): Worlds top combined eventers are trying for good scores in order to qualify for Doha at Harvard Multi-Meet. Reigning olympic winner Bryan Clay scored a nice first day with 3375 points and 6.85 at 60 m, 717 in long jump, 14.87 in shot put, 2 meters clearance in high jump. Jamaican world medalist Maurice Smith is second with 3345 points after 7.05-717-16.83-191.
ROBLES SCHEDULE
HAVANNA (CUB): World record holder Dayron Robles schedule for indoor meetings is set. After two meets in Germany (Dusseldorf, Stuttgart) he should run in Stockholm, Birmingham and Lievin before heading to Doha for World Indoor Championships.

BARDEJOV (SVK, Jan 29): Peter Horak cleared 220 at a special high jump meeting in Slovakia. He also had good tries at 225.
COLORADO SPRINGS (USA): The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced that Garfield Ellenwood, an athlete in the sport of track and field, has accepted a two-year suspension for violating the applicable sport anti-doping rules, including the International Association of Athletics Federations (“IAAF”) Rules and the World Anti-Doping Code (“Code”). Mr. Ellenwood’s anti-doping rule violation was based on evidence obtained by USADA as a result of an investigation, and included Mr. Ellenwood’s admissions of using prohibited performance enhancing substances. Ellenwood (35) accepted a two-year period of ineligibility for his doping offense involving the use of prohibited performance enhancing substances, including anabolic agents and hormones. In addition to his suspension, which began on January 25, 2010, all of Ellenwood’s competitive results will be disqualified, including forfeiture of all medals, points, and prizes since November 3, 2001. He clocked 10.40 in 1999 and 20.86 in 2002 as his best times.
BUCURESTI (ROU): The traditional indoor High Jump meeting organized by former European Champion Monica Iagar will not be held this year due to financial problems.
